Hey hey, my name is Carter Tran, and if you’re reading this right now I’m assuming you’d like to know a little about who I am. Blogging, especially about myself, is somewhat foreign to me, so please bear with me.
Before I go into detail about myself y’all should know a little about my family background first. The fact that I was born is incredible in its own way. My mom and dad were both children when they came to the United States, but what you might not know is that they were both refugees that made it out of some of the most unlikely situations. As a 5 year old, my mother had malaria and escaped the Cambodian Genocide with her older sister and her mother, my grandma. My dad seeked refuge with his family from the recently war-torn country of Vietnam along with his 11 siblings and parents. Both of my parents’ families ended up settling all over the country, but both my mom and dad ended up in Colorado. Life went on, and although I could go on forever about them, they eventually had me, Carter-Trung Nha Tran, along with my two sisters, Kendall and Sabrina. My parents, however, didn’t have a healthy relationship and divorced when I was a toddler – my mom gaining full custody. Several years after, my step-father came into the picture. He was a genuine Italian-New Yorker reigning from Poughkeepsie with two children of his own. So I had a crowded childhood with 7 people in the house, and that came with plenty of us and downs, but I wouldn’t have it any other way looking back on it now.
Now that all of that is it of the way, you’re probably wondering about who I am. On the surface I am an Asian-American kid finishing his last year of high school in Boulder, Colorado. There are so many people that would never guess about myself at first glance though. If you really knew me, you’d know things such as…

My love for traveling independently and going on spontaneous adventures. There’s nothing like that taste of freedom when exploring unknown places, meeting new people, and experiencing new things in your own way. To put it simply, I have a strong sense of wanderlust.

My passion for music. My favorite hobby is to curate playlists and listen to music. I’ve spent countless hours making playlists and blindly roaming through the internet looking for more to listen to. It doesn’t end there though, as I’ve had my fair share of concerts. My first being Stevie Wonder with Chickoreea and Herbie Hancock. Then some of the rest include Chance the Rapper, Ed Sheeran, Mac Miller, Daniel Caesar, Brockhampton, Louis the Child, Khalid, and the list goes on. There’s almost nothing that rivals music for me. And if you’re by chance wanting to know some of my favorite artists, I love Frank Ocean, Daniel Caesar, Flume, Bryson Tiller, Lauren Daigle, SZA, Mac Miller, and The Lumineers. (feel free to check out my spotify 😉 @cartertran22)

The rest of my hobbies include photography, film, cuisine culture (from fast food to fine dining or even grabbing a cup of joe), playing with animals, and playing any types of games whether they’re board or video.

I am hoping to major in interdisciplinary studies including communications, marketing/advertising/public relations, psychology, and social work. My dream job is to start a collective built around all forms of art and culture. And maybe one day start my own music and culture festival.
