Jesus commands his followers to create disciples and share his love in the Great Commission of Matthew 28. God calls each Christian to different peoples and places, but all Christians are called to go. Whether it be in a hometown, a big city, a new job, or overseas, God has placed all Christians so that they have the choice to obey his commandment and fulfill their calling.
Just like My Testimony, I was very young when I began thinking about becoming a missionary. I was in Sunday school one morning at about four or five years old. Our class was talking about Heaven and Hell, and I could not understand why someone could go to Hell without ever getting the chance to hear about Jesus. So I asked my teacher, “doesn’t everyone get one chance to hear about Jesus?” The words she replied with have been drilled in my brain for the past 13 years. I imagine they will be there for the rest of my life.
“What if their one chance was you?”
Well…if I am someone’s ONE chance to hear about Jesus, that is a big responsibility. A responsibility I do not want to take lightly. I was reading Radical by David Platt, and he tells the story of his friend in an unreached village trying to connect and share the Gospel. The village people offered him a drink and gave him a coke can. The realization hits hard. Coca-Cola has done a better job at sharing their soda with then entire world than Christians have done at sharing the Savior of the world with the world. I don’t want to miss a chance to show someone Jesus.
So the answer to “Why I became a missionary” is simple. I want to obey Jesus’ commandment and listen for his call. I want to allow God to guide my life. The World Race is another step in my life God has called me on. I expect to launch in 4 months, and I am sooo excited!
Thank you for reading my latest update! Continue praying that:
- The COVID-19 pandemic will not cause drastic changes to my trip
- The Lord will show me which gear to buy (tent, sleeping bag/pad, backpack etc.)
- My focus will be on furthering my relationship with Christ above all other things.
Fundraising Update: As of Sunday, May 3rd, 2020, I have about $8,000 raised of my $18,000 goal. I am continuing to do things like pressure wash, yard work, and work at Chick-Fil-A to raise money. If you need any extra work done please do not hesitate to contact me! I plan to do a few more fundraisers this summer also! You can donate through this blog or contact me by phone or email if you would like to use Venmo/check/cash/etc.
COVID-19 Update: My trip is still set to launch in September of 2020. A backup plan was provided to us in case we are not able to launch that early which would still allow me to go on most of my trip, but we are praying that does not need to happen.
