Howdy!!

My name is Avery Browning and because I go to Texas A&M University I have lost all ability to formally introduce myself without saying “Howdy,” Nevertheless, I am currently a sophomore at A&M, studying Telecommunications with a minor in Art.

I am from a somewhat small town in East Texas called Kaufman. I grew up there my entire life. I am truly grateful for my Kaufman people and miss them dearly.

I am passionate about a lot of things but if you get my talking about Missions and I won’t stop. I have been in love with Missions since I was a freshman in high school when I went on my first trip to Aurora, Colorado. On this trip, I discovered for the first time that there were people out there who had no idea the kind of hope, and mercy that was waiting for them in a relationship with the Lord. Since then I have not looked back. I hold tight to Isaiah 6:8 and feel like this is God’s calling on my life. I have dedicated every summer since then to Missions, serving back in Colorado, Arkansas, and by far my favorite, Germany.

Germany is my biggest passion. The past three summers I have been so blessed to go serve in Lundenschied, Germany at Synergy Baseball Camps. On this trip, I have had conversations about how God and science and how they fit with one another. Most importantly, though this trip, I have gotten to speak the name of Christ to Germans in their school and throughout camp.

This same passion for speaking the Lord’s name has motivated me to apply for the World Race. I have dreamed about going on the World Race since I was a freshman in high school, after talking with one of the youth interns who was preparing to go on the 11 in 11 trip. South America is a place I never saw myself serving but when I read the description for this trip back in July, I could feel the Lord calling me to go.

I am currently involved in two organizations at A&M. I get to serve on staff for FLiC (Freshmen Leaders in Christ), through this organization I am able to mentor and serve alongside freshmen throughout different ministries. The ministry that I get to be a part of is called “Time for Chai” through the BSM. T4C is just an amazing opportunity for international students to hang out on Friday nights and play board games. I have been so blessed to have befriended a few Indian students, and have had the pleasure of getting to know them and hear about how they are adjusting to America.

I am also involved with an organization called Impact. Impact Retreat is a 4-day camp held in August for incoming students to Texas A&M University and Blinn College that desires to connect each them to other students, local churches, and ministries that will provide a source of lasting community and fellowship, built on the foundation of Jesus Christ and the truth of the gospel. I got the pleasure to be a counselor for one of the camps this past August and got to see students for the first time come home to Lord, I got to see students who were dull in their faith, rededicate their lives to Christ, and lastly I got to see the Lord’s Name just be glorified.
