Wow!!! Welcome to week 3 of Costa Q&A! This will be the final week of Q&A for Costa Rica. Our questions this week come from Pastor Mary Zajac, Meg Bingham, and Mark Armstrong 🙂
“What skits are you preparing?”
As a squad we have 8 skits prepared. Team Mesa (my team!) is presenting the Woman caught in Adultery, and the story of Jesus calming the seas. Quo Vadis performs a skit on Jesus acting as our bridge to salvation, and the story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den. Team Zao chose the story of Shadrack, Mishak, and Abendigo & wrote a skit on how Jesus frees us from the chains of our sin. Team Fervent performs the parable of the Prodigal Son, and a skit on how Jesus is the only thing that will satisfy our every need.
Most of these skits contain little to no dialogue in an effort to navigate around language barriers. What dialogue is included is done in Spanish. After each skit, the group that performs gives a very short teaching on the importance of that story (with a lot of translation assistance from our base host Rasta) We perform our skits in public on street corners with one wireless microphone, and we take time after our skits are over to pray over those who come to watch.
“What strategies (other than prayer) does your squad use to lift one another up and build unity in times of struggle?”
Wow. This is a big question. Unity has stayed in the foreground of our conversations as a squad from day one of the race. Prayer is our best weapon against the enemy always, but there are a few other ways we choose into standing together as a squad.
Worship is a huge part of our squad’s relationship. We do weekly planned worship as a squad. We’ve done live worship, speaker worship, art worship, and a cappella worship! There’s also a lot of spontaneous worship/jam sessions around campus. One thing I really love about living in the big house is that there is almost always worship music playing from some part of the house.
Our squad has a weekly Bible study together that we call “Deep Dive”. Currently we’re working through Galatians! Discussing scripture verse by verse as a whole squad is so encouraging. It’s fun and enlightening to bounce ideas and thoughts off of eachother while growing in our understanding of the word.
“What should be the prayer focus as we continue to support your missionary work?”
Energy. Energy has been a big struggle for the whole squad. Even though the pace of our manual labor days is relaxed, the work is still very difficult. We also do soccer ministry a couple times a week, walk everywhere, and the temperature is usually between 80-90 degrees. It is AMAZING, but physically exhausting. Along similar lines, evanglism is mentally draining. Evangelism when you are also the translator is SUPER draining. Again, we all love what we get to do here, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. However, I know we would all appreciate prayers for good rest and a total restoration of our energy.
Thank you all so much for your prayers and support. If you have more questions you can always contact me at [email protected] or 331-262-8009.
