We spent our adventure day at the beach in Jaco. I have always had a love fear relationship with the ocean. I don’t like the thought that other things aka creatures and seaweed are swimming in the ocean with me. However; I love the way the cool water feels on my body, the sound of the waves crashing, the feel of being lighter than air, and the health benefits are numerous. Today as I spent my adventure day in the ocean I found myself comparing the vast waters and the unknown creatures to God and his greatness. God is full of power and we can’t even begin to understand his entire plan. As I felt the powerful waves hit my face and occasionally knock me over I was reminded of his power. As I floated over the very same waves I was reminded of his love. I felt cradled and safe.
Later I was getting pulled further and further into the ocean and I couldn’t feel the sand on my feet anymore. I began to feel unsafe and fear overtook me. I fervently tried to pull myself out of the waves and swim towards the shore. My legs were very weak from wave hopping for several hours and I’m not a very powerful swimmer so I began to panic. God placed Ryan there at just the right time. I felt defeated and called out to Ryan. He told me to take his hand and not to panic. He pulled me toward the shore and I began to doggy paddle. I still couldn’t reach the ocean floor so I begged him to pull me in further and he told me to hold his hand as he swam both of us into the shore. After I was out of the deep water and calmed down I immediately thought of how as Christians we need help. We are only human and have our weak moments so God has placed fellow believers in our lives to help us. Sometimes it’s physical like what I experienced today and other times we need spiritual or emotional assistance from our brothers and sisters. We are the body of Christ and we are here for each other. These are my ocean thoughts.
I have noticed that my relationship with God has been blossoming since being on the World Race. Spending time in His word every morning, Sabbath, serving others, being in community with fellow believers, great leaders, and focused prayer has made us closer than ever. I can feel Him more than ever before and I’m learning how to hear His voice in everything. This is so cool! My God is so cool!
