If you follow any other racers I’m sure you’ve heard by now that we aren’t going back to Gainesville between Thanksgiving and Christmas, due to Covid. Yesterday around 2 p.m. I checked my phone to see an email and about 70 notifications from my squadmates, that’s how I found out the news. When I checked what time the email was sent out I realized it was almost exactly 2 hours after I hugged and said “see you Monday” to a team leader on my squad I spent the morning shopping with. That got me thinking back on every goodbye I had said leading up to Thanksgiving, I realized none of us really said “goodbye” but there was a lot of “see you later.” Even through the heartbreak of the time we have to spend apart we still get to hold on to seeing each other again in 5 weeks, and I can’t wait!
A couple of the things that I am intentionally praying about right now are, living where my feet are and living with a “see you later” mindset with everyone I meet. That “see you later” might mean 5 weeks from now, 6 months from now, or even one day at the gates of Heaven. As important as it is to grieve the time away from the people that we care for and the ones we love, we also need to remember there will soon enough come a day when we see them again.
