i want you to come as you are, but i promise you won’t leave my presence the way you were.

i’ve been thinking a lot lately about how God really wants me to come to Him with all of the things! all of the gross nasty things! the things i’m embarrassed of! the things i’m ashamed of! the things i’m not proud of! God! wants! them! and thank goodness because i sure don’t!

He’s got an open invitation to each one of His kids (yes, that’s YOU!) to come to Him with complete honesty.

you don’t need to try to pull yourself together before coming to the Father. He loves it when we’re empty, because it’s just more room for Him. read that again.

He is Abba. He’s a good dad. He’s not one to bring shame upon His beloved children, but one to crack that gentle loving smile and say “i’ve got it, you don’t need to worry.”

“come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and i will give you rest. take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for i am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” matthew 11:28-30

yes, we can come to Him with all the gunk we’re carrying and covered with. and YES, He’ll clean it all up!!! we don’t have to walk in any of those embarrassing moments or feelings of being unworthy or unloveable. none of that defines who we are.

you are a child of the king. you are made free and righteous in His presence.

read that again.

“see what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! and that is what we are!” 1 john 3:1

i come into your presence

and i don’t fear rejection

cause you take me as i am

i’m not asking for perfection

but with widespread arms

you’re here to give affection

“come as you are,” He says.

“take me as i am,” i say.

“all i want is all you are.” He reminds me.
