God is good. that’s a phrase that i’ve always heard, a phrase i’ve always believed, a phrase i’ve never questioned.

God is good. this is true.

“no one is good except God alone” (luke 18:19).

but what about when things don’t happen the way you think they should? when it feels like life just keeps throwing punches and you can’t keep up? when you feel so empty you don’t know what you’re supposed to do to fix it?

a friend once told me “if it’s from God, it must be good.” His Word says “every good and perfect gift is from above” (james 1:17). i’ve carried that with me. and the more i think about it, the more i realize how EVERYTHING is from God. it’s never like something happens and God’s up there in heaven like “dangit, now what do i do? i have to figure something else out!” He’s never caught by surprise. His plans never falter. what a good and sovereign king of kings that loves each and every one of us so well.

God is good. His goodness is not circumstantial, it’s just who He is. it’s just His character. He is constant. constantly good.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (hebrews 13:8). thanks God.

i’ve shared before about how the Lord speaks to me a lot through song lyrics. this is one He’s given me to sing over this season of my life while i’m team leading in georgia.

you’re goodness surrounds me, God.

read that again. since the Holy Spirit lives in me (read that again, too), His goodness is always with me. it surrounds me. everything around me can be seen as good because He is good and He is with me always.

God is good. He’s been teaching me to shift my perspective from asking “God, fix this!” to “God, how are you moving in this?” because we know He is moving. He’s always moving. thanks God.

it’s a shift to take a step back and focus on His goodness. it’s there. it’s always there. sometimes we just need to look for it. God says when we look for Him, we’ll find Him (jeremiah 29:13). He’s there, take a look. we have the opportunity to focus not on what we think we’ve lost, but on how He’s still moving through it. because it’s all for His glory in the end.

“taste and see that the Lord is good” (psalm 34:8, also a good john mark pantana song). we’re experiencing God’s goodness! we’re witnesses to it! we know He’s good because of how we’ve seen Him move!

God is good. we’re called to praise in all circumstances (1 thessalonians 5:16-18). “oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” (psalm 107:1). we’re called to praise Him in the mountains and the valleys. it doesn’t matter what’s happening, because God is still good. always good. forever good. thanks God.

okay. those are my thoughts. this is what the Lord’s been walking me through lately. thanks for tuning in!

until next time,
mads:)
