Hello! I am twenty-one years old. I have a mother, a brother, and three sisters. I was born and raised in Muscatine, Iowa. I was raised with two of my sisters. One went to Mexico with her father.

I am different than the rest of my family. I do not think or even talk like them. I do not understand their sense of humor. I am the black sheep. I am more book smart than street smart. Probably not a good thing if you lived in the ghetto, well as ghetto as Muscatine can get. I knew I was different, while trying to fit in I lost myself. I did not embrace me being me. I was ashamed of being myself.

I was shielded to the world. Did not dare go outside my box I was put in. Growing up I only knew towns around Muscatine. I would never go anywhere without my family; not saying it was always a good time. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing as the saying goes. Sometimes I would want to get away. Experience life without their inputs. That may be one of the reasons why I joined the military.

I was seventeen when I enlisted. I have visited five states and lived in the Middle East for nine months. The experiences and conversations I had with my military family has molded me to be the person I am today. I have communicated with people of different perspectives, different backgrounds, and different ways of living.

Because of the military I became more resilient, more confident, more diligent, and surprisingly more spiritual. Because of the people I met in the military I want to dig deeper into having a relationship with God.
