This week started out with a wet adventure. Monday we left Camp Hope and a storm was coming in so we walked as fast as we good. It started down pouring and streets were flooding. So we started running. It was pointless though because we were already soaked through our clothes. We accepted it and had fun running in the rain all the way back to the house. The rest of the week went smoothly, thankfully!
This week we covered all the mirrors in the house for self-love week. It was optional but a good reminder to each of us that we don’t need a mirror to “fix” what is on our face that we think is ugly. Each night we did an activity before dinner that revolves around self love.
Wednesday night Kelly, one of the squad leaders, had us sit in silence and listen for God to show us what He says our worth is and then draw it out or journal about it. I had this image in my head of God and I sitting in closeness. And from behind him He pulls out a rose and hands it to me. It is very cheesy, but for me it worked. A rose is a symbol of love. Love, from my Father is everlasting. This trip has a theme already of me learning to know God’s true love. Just like a flower is hand picked, I was hand picked to be his daughter.
Thursday night, Emily, our other squad leader had a two part activity. For 10 minutes she had us dream with God. Just like us, you might ask how this has to do with understanding our worth. Well, God gives us desires and because we are his children he wants to know what desires we have. He wants good things for us. Sometimes he allows those desires to happen and sometimes he molds them into better ones because we are his prized possessions. So dreaming with God allows us to take what is on our heart and talk to God about every little thing. Just sharing your dreams with the Father. During that time we listened to worship music in the background. For the second part, she played popular secular love songs. During these songs, she told us to have the mindset that God was singing the lyrics over us. Imagine God saying those things to us. It was silly and at the times the lyrics were odd, but when those love songs are listened to in that perspective, it’s really neat. She told us to find one that we like and make it our Jesus love song so that when its ever played, we hear it a different way.
Friday night, both Emily and Kelly washed our feet. It was an act of service that they wanted to show us, like Jesus did with his disciples. Out of all the activities each night, I felt loved the most from that. I had never had anyone wash my feet before and sitting there for the 3 minutes it took, I could feel the love that Kelly had for me. (I am on Kelly’s team, so she washed my feet. The other half is on Emily’s). We listened to worship music and all started singing along. I stayed up worshiping probably until 11:30. It was a very heart filling night.
We went to church again this week. The pastor is really good and God is teaching me a lot! There is a lot to process daily and I am excited to continue sharing those lessons with ya’ll!
Thanks for following along!
Love,
Emma
