Week 1, Month 1 : COSTA RICA
Hello everyone!!! It has officially been 9 days since I’ve last seen a Whataburger, a billion miles away from Texas, and 5 full ministry days so far!:D I have learned to love waking up at 6 in the morning for my devotionals which if you know me, (especially my old cross country running buddies) I was NEVER good at being alive and well until at least 9. But I have definitley seen a giant change within myself as I’ve been here. As a very unorganized person I have began to love cleaning and helping others no matter how difficult it seems at the time. I’ve read more of the bible in the past week than I have ever been able to do especially considering I’m not the biggest fan of reading and I absolutely love that. I’ve been able to see beyond just myself and I have been more open to ideas and have been a lot less stubborn which I doubt that my family would believe. 😉 So far my team has been to a food bank, a prison, and have helped a very sweet lady move out of her house which has all been beautiful in their own special ways. In each place I have seen so many smiles which is worth more than I thought could be worth. I have been nervous each time but right when I get there it’s like God has taken away any doubt and fear that I’d normally have in my head and I’m instantly ready for whatever is next.
I’m not gonna lie there are things I definitely miss; I miss my cat absolutely ignoring everyone except me, I miss watching Vampire Diaries with my mom, I miss getting fried chicken and gravy at Whataburger almost every other day, I miss annoying my little brother, and I miss my parents getting super awkward at dinner and not knowing what to talk about except the texture and distinct flavor of the food they are eating. Hahaha. Really I miss everything that I imagined missing and even all the little things that I didn’t think I’d miss. God has really showed me the work He has for me here and I trust that He knows what’s waiting for me. I have honestly started to fall in love with the place we’re in and everything it has to offer even though it’s only been the first week. I’m really excited for all that is to come!!!
Until next time you beautiful people! Pura Vida!
