When my World Race advisor asked me to write a blog titled “Why I’m Going on the Race,” it took me a while to find the right words to answer such a loaded question. I mean, why am I choosing to live out of a backpack for 9 months? To leave my family and friends and the comforts of home for so long? The simple answer? Love.

As a Christian, I’m called to walk in love. To live love, if you will. And most importantly, to spread love. As I shared in my last post, I’ve always had a heart for those who are hurting. My natural instinct has always been to comfort those in despair, to provide relief to those in pain, and hope to those experiencing hardship. I’m going on the Race to fulfill a calling that has been heavy on my heart for awhile now. The calling to go and to serve and to love.

I know some may be confused as to why I’m going on the Race instead of college next year, as most people at this point in their lives do. I think that going on the World Race will only help me to uncover the plans God has for me in terms of choosing a career in the future. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve begun to understand that oftentimes, adventure is the best way to learn. While I won’t be learning in a traditional classroom setting, I know that next year I’ll learn more about who I am and will grow to uncover my identity as a daughter of the King. All the while learning about other cultures and hearing the stories of people all across the nations.

Put simply, these are the reasons why I’m going on the Race: to serve Jesus and to love others well. I hope that in following this path, I will be used as a vessel to further the kingdom of heaven and to share with others the incredible joy I am able to experience through being a follower of Jesus.

P.S. If you have any questions about this journey or why I’m going on the World Race, please reach out to me! I’d love to talk 🙂

In His love,

Caroline
