When the race first started we were out evangelizing whenever we could. There were some weeks where that’s all we did. I really grew to love going out. The thing that I thought I would hate the most turned into the thing I would miss doing the most.
Ever since quarentine was put in place we haven’t been able to go out and evangelize. I’ve really missed it. Sure there were some occasions where we were able to talk to people but because of all of the restrictions it wasn’t the same. This past week we have finally been able to go out and evangelize. Yes we still.wore masks and kept our distance but it finally felt like the beginning of the race again.
Last week on thursday we went to a park in Buffalo where a lot of homeless people live. We went to the park with waters, blankets, and many other things to hand out to the people we met. For the first 30 minutes I was handing things out and didnt get a chance to talk to anyone. Eventually I was able to get away and go talk to someone. I saw Andrew talking to a man who had a blanket that looked just like mine. I knew that that was a sign I needed to go talk to him. I heard Andrew talking to him about his life. I’m going to refer to the man as “T”. “T” told us how he had a really good job with a lot of money but then he had multiple people die in his family in a short period of time. Due to the funeral payments he became homeless. Since he couldn’t pay for gas he no longer had a car which meant he could no longer get to work. While we were talking with him, one of our ministry contacts came up and asked “T” if he wanted to rededicate his life to God. “T” said yes. Our ministry contact then asked me to lead him in a rededication prayer. I had no idea there was a specific prayer he wanted me to give so I just started praying. After I was done our ministry contact led him in the exact prayer he was looking for.
I honestly hate being put on spot. I felt so out of place when he asked me to lead him in a prayer. I know this was God showing me that I am capable of so much more. Even if it wasn’t what our ministry contact was looking for I still did what God wanted me to do. Which is pray for “T”. It was a good night back out evangelizing.
Two days later we went back out to the park. This time we brought lunches, shoes, socks, and toiletries to hand out. It was amazing to see the turn out of people who were out there to help. While I was handing out toiletries I saw “T” again. I knew that the second I got the chance I’d want to go talk with him again. Luckily I was able to. He told me how he had an interview lined up for a head cook position at a resturaunt. I got to pray over him one last time before I had to leave. It was nice getting to go and spread Gods love! As it says in Mathew 28:19-
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
It was really nice getting to get back and talk to people again. Were going to go back out to the park later this week and I really hope I can see him again before we leave.
