I want to start off this blog with a quick update. My team heard from our squad mentor yesterday. While all squads are being considered to be pulled off the field, mine is not. Theres still a chance we will get pulled for our safety in regards to the Corona virus. There is a team actively making sure that we are still safe and it’s okay to keep going.
After that said I have spent the past week in Lewes Delaware. I don’t know what I was expecting Delaware to be but it exceeded my expectations. We stayed right by the water with our squad mentor’s sister. She had set up several ministry opportunities for us. The one we mainly worked with was Love INC. Which stands for love in the name of christ. They help the homeless community get back on their feet. We helped reorganize their entire kitchen as well as lay down mulch so a flower bed can be planted. We also got to have a beauty for ashes event. For those who don’t know what this is, it’s a womens ministry event. We invited several women to love inc. We read the bible and the women got to share there stories. The one women I sat next to I truly got to know. We will call her “D”. She had an amazing spirit. Nothing brought her down. I also saw how much she cared for the other women in the room. At the end of the meeting I pulled her aside and gave her my courage keys for the journey. I enjoyed getting to hear there stories.
Another organization we worked with is Jusst Sooup soup kitchen. The people who run it have been running it for years. When they first started they were running it out of their home. They allow anyone in the community to eat there for free. They didnt have much money for themselves but God always provided. In 2011 a friend of theres put in an application for them to be on Extreme Makeover Home Edition. They were chosen. The show built them a dining hall with a commercial kitchen so they can host hundreds of people. They also built them and there son a new house. Having had watched the show when I was younger I knew there was always a room with a cool theme. One of the owners gave us a tour through there house. Before we went into one particular room he stopped us and told us his story. Having been an African American who grew up in the 60’s he had to deal with segregation. He told us about a dinner with amazing milkshakes, but he was never allowed inside. He always had to go to a window on the backside of the building. All he wanted was to see the inside of the diner. After telling the show about his experience growing up they wanted to do something special for him when we entered the room I was in complete shock. They had turned the room into a diner. Complete with a soda bar, red booths and a huge tv that can be watched from either side of the TV. After everything I saw them do for the community I could see why they chose this particular couple. They have gone up and beyond to help there community expecting nothing else in return. Pictures are below.
Also this week we got to volunteer at a compassion international conference. I had no idea what to expect. I just about lost it when I showed up and saw Bethel music and Matt Maher were performing. Luckily for me I could go sit in the stadium while the show was going on. It was such a beautiful night. The music was incredible. It’s a night I’ll never forget.
This week in Delaware has been amazing and I cant wait to see what Philadelphia has in store.
