One thing that I love so much about Jesus and his ministry is that he was always with people. Teaching people, healing people, making disciples. He makes it pretty evident that people matter.
I’m sure we are all familiar with the terms hills and valleys as they relate to Christianity. The hills are the Jesus highs you get when you spend quality time with him or hear an empowering sermon. The moments when God reveals something to you that just gets you pumped up. The valleys are the struggles, the times when life gets boring and monotonous and we just kind of push through it. In Matthew 17, Jesus and his disciples head up to a mountain top and this is where the transfiguration occurs. Jesus gives the disciples a glimpse into his glory and holiness. Then, after this “mountain top moment”, they head back down the mountain and what does Jesus do? He meets the people there. He immediately tended to the people’s needs. He could have stayed on that mountain top letting the disciples bask in his glory, but instead he cares for the those in the valley. We are not made to live on the mountain tops, we are made for the valley, everyday life. Mountain top moments should give us strength and we should take that strength and inspiration and use it in the valley. WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE.
We encounter other people literally every day. People who are broken and hurting. God has really opened my eyes lately to the brokenness of the world. It’s my prayer that God uses me to meet people in the valley, to be an encouragement to them, and to love them and tend to their needs like Jesus did.
Love God, Love people.
