Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to work with kids. I grew up in the small town of Irwin, Pa where I attended a church called Word of Life. My family and I have deeply invested our time to helping out in each area of our church. One day they asked for volunteers to work with the preschoolers. At first, I was skeptical because I was too impatient and honestly scared I would do something wrong. My mom convinced me to help lead preschool praise every other Sunday of the month. Ever since, my interest in teaching kids has grown substantially. Having this background I was comfortable enough to take a Child Development class in school. I was among 7 other classmates who bravely took on the role of being teachers. Little did I know, how much of a handful three and four year olds can be. This class meant everything to me, as it progressively furthered my interest. My principle, who is a close friend, informed me about his church, Refuge that does yearly mission trips. Instantly I was excited at the thought of traveling to another country to help people in need. Later that day I spoke with my mom and she was not thrilled. It took many weeks to even get her to consider the thought of me going. One Sunday my mom and I went to Refuge, and the people greeted us with smiles and hugs. My mom started to warm up to the idea of me going, after meeting the people of the church. Not much longer after that, I started to get ready for Haiti. It was a hard and long process, but in the blink of an eye I was stepping off the plane into a new world. It truly was a life changing trip where I met new and wonderful people. Its also where I discovered a new world of food. Green meatballs, chicken eyes and many other discolored foods. I was already a picky eater to start with but in Haiti I had no other choice! Coming home I had already started to plan out my future. I even started to draw out the blueprints of my preschool on a farm. My life has been full of great travels, school, work, drama, and great memories, I cant wait to start this new chapter of my life.
