((Escribí este blog hace un par de semanas, durante Debrief.))
A lo largo de los 9 meses en World Race tenemos 3 retiros llamados “Debrief”, con el fin de hacer una pausa, procesar lo que estamos viviendo, trabajar ciertos temas, reunirnos con todos nuestros líderes (3 de ellos nos apoyan desde las oficinas centrales y solo vienen a debriefs), descansar, etc. El primero es al final del primer mes, o sea ya. Así que a continuación les cuento al respecto.
Tengo el privilegio de estar en el equipo de Logística dentro de mi squad. Lo que significa que 2 compañeras y yo ayudamos con parte de las finanzas y planes de mi squad. Nuestra primera gran labor fue planear este debrief. Sin experiencia alguna, nos tocó buscar alojamiento, transporte y alimentación para una semana para 50 personas y con un presupuesto muy limitado! Ahora, estamos en un hostel Selina en el Lago Atiltán, donde cada uno tiene su propia cama, nuestros líderes sus propios cuartos, tenemos desayuno buffet todos los días y un espacio con la mejor vista del lago para tener nuestras reuniones. Los números no tienen sentido, pero Dios nos permitió soñar grande con esta actividad y abrió las puertas para que esto pasara.
Vemos su gracia y favor en cada detalle. Perfectamente podíamos quedarnos esta semana en algún lugar con condiciones mucho más simples, pero hasta en esto Dios quiso chinearnos!
Aquí en debrief hemos tenido sesiones de adoración, entrenamiento, enseñanzas, conversaciones… Es increíble ver todo lo que Dios ha estado trabajando en todos nosotros en apenas este mes. Ha sido un tiempo bueno para procesar estas semanas pasadas y agarrar aún más fuerzas para seguir. También tengo ratos libres y plata que he ahorrado para hacer aventuras en el lago. Pude visitar unas aguas termales, hacer paddleboarding, tirarme de una plataforma a 12 metros del lago, ver un museo de chocolate, visitar los mercados locales y más.
Mi parte favorita de la semana fue conocer y hacerme amiga de una de las trabajadoras del hostel. Ella nos compartió como Dios la había estado retando en ciertas áreas de su vida en las últimas semanas, cuando llegamos nosotros, un grupo de 50 misioneros, a su trabajo y Dios le dio confirmaciones por medio de nosotros. Aunque estábamos de “vacaciones” pudimos compartir acerca de Cristo, porque la vida cristiana no se acaba cuando salimos de la iglesia o ministerio. Honestamente, es muy fácil perder esa mentalidad y ahora me doy cuenta de tantas oportunidades que he desperdiciado por perderla. ¡Pero gracias a Dios que nos sigue dando oportunidades y pone a personas específicas a nuestro alrededor!
También quiero ser honesta y admitir que me he sentido rara al pensar, “estoy en un viaje misionero, pero lo que las personas ven ahorita son mis fotos de vacaciones”. Por lo general las opiniones de otros no influyen mucho en mí, pero en este caso tengo muchas personas que me apoyan de distintas formas y quiero ser lo más transparentes con ellos. World Race no es tan glamoroso como estas fotos. Probablemente no merecemos esta semana tan linda, pero Dios es misericordioso y nos quiso bendecir así.

((I wrote this blog a couple of weeks ago, during Debrief.))
Throughout the 9 months in World Race we have 3 retreats called “Debrief”, in order to pause, process what we are living, work certain topics, meet with all our leaders (3 of them support us from the office and only come to debriefs), rest, etc. The first is at the end of the first month (now). So, let me tell you about it!
I have the privilege of being in the Logistics team within my squad. Which means that 2 squadmates and I help with part of my squad’s finances and plans. Our first great job was to plan this debrief. Without any experience, we had to find accommodation, transportation and food for a week for 50 people and with a very limited budget! Now, we are in a Selina hostel on Lake Atiltán, where everyone has their own bed, our leaders their own rooms, we have a daily breakfast buffet and a space with the best view of the lake to have our meetings. The numbers make no sense, but God allowed us to dream big about this activity and opened the doors for this to happen.
We see his grace and favor in every detail. We could perfectly stay this week somewhere with much simpler conditions, but even in this God wanted to spoil us!
Here in debrief we have had worship sessions, training, teachings, one-on-ones… It is amazing to see everything God has been working on all of us in just this month. It has been a good time to process these past weeks and gain even more strength to continue. I also have free time and money that I have saved for adventures on the lake. I was able to visit some hot springs, go paddleboarding, jump off a 36 feet cliff to the lake, see a chocolate museum, visit local markets and more.
My favorite part of the week was meeting and becoming friends with one of the hostel workers. She shared how God had been challenging her in certain areas of her life in recent weeks, when we arrived, a group of 50 missionaries, to her work and God gave her confirmations through us. Although we were on “vacation” we could share about Christ, because the Christian life does not end when we leave the church or ministry. Honestly, it is very easy to lose that mentality and now I realize so many opportunities that I have wasted by losing it. But thank God he keeps giving us opportunities and puts specific people around us!
I also want to be honest and admit that I’ve felt weird when I think, “I’m on a mission trip, but what people see right now are my vacation photos.” In general, the opinions of others do not influence me much, but in this case I have many people who support me in different ways and I always want to be transparent with them. World Race is not as glamorous as these photos. We probably don’t deserve this beautiful week, but God is merciful and wanted to bless us like that.
