Wow, what a great trip to Lesotho it was. Our team, Team Agua started in Lima where we all met back up after being at Machu Picchu and Pacasmayo for Christmas, we all stayed there for a night, and then headed to the airport where we met up with the other teams, Valiant, and Café!
Once we all were gathered there we hopped on a plane to Madrid, Spain! Luckily for us we had a twelve hour layover there. Therefore, we explored the city until we had to be back at the airport for our next flight. That flight was to Dubai. It was New Years Eve and thank God we were flying Emirates because we got free drinks all night and wonderful dinners! After getting to Dubai we got on to our connecting flight to Johannesburg, South Africa!
The host we stayed with is named Ericka and she reminds me of my yoga instructor Tracy who is also South African. It was sweet. She had cats and dogs that we got to love on before leaving! For the last stretch of the journey we were all taken in vans to our ministry sites. Our drive was about eight hours to Mokhotlong. There is hardly electricity or running water but it truly looks like the ‘Kingdom In The Sky’!
Turning Twenty-seven
I am beyond blessed. I prayed for joy for my birthday and boy did I get it! On Wednesdays the ministers go to the prison, how lucky am I that my birthday fell on the one day a week they go… the day began with my bed being surrounded by balloons. Then, I had coffee and quiet time with Courtney and Katlyn, breakfast, followed by a short walk down to the hospital where we go every morning for devotional.
At the hospital before Katlyn gave the word the patients sang a beautiful song as harmonious as Iv ever heard anyone sing, it was angelic, and such a treat! Then the pastor who ministers at the prison met us there. Usually, teams have to walk but he said he didn’t feel like it today so we hopped in the back of his truck. We rode through town singing the hymn we prepared for the prisoners and waved at the locals, it was SO fun!
Once at prison we prayed, listened to the pastor preach, both Rachels gave their testimonies, Katlyn gave the word again, and then we sang ‘Ill Fly Away’. When we got back to the mission house the pastor came in and hung out with us. We snacked, drank tea, and coffee while he gave us some words of encouragement.
Luckily we got to do all of this before the rain came! He left to go get gas since his truck was on E before we left for the hospital because there was no gas in town but we made it there and back! The girls started on the chores while I relaxed in bed, reading, writing, watching movies, and napping!
After all the movies and naps we started getting ready for dinner at the Mokhotlong Hotel… we asked our roommate about our clogged sink. He and the pastor’s son fixed it and also somehow got the water running so I had a warm shower for my birthday!
We went down to the hotel and had pizza which was pretty good then we walked to the grocery store to get cake and ice cream but it was already closed so I had to settle for a snack pack… ah well, I ate so much pizza there wasnt much room left anyway! Over all it was a pretty nice birthday.
Harvesters Hillock Bible Church
On the first Sunday of 2020, Paster spoke on the book of Numbers chapter 10, the US, and Middle Eastern conflicts he said affects South Africa, he went on that this year was going to be a year to walk in the wilderness. World wide tensions and things of that nature can be the wilderness, Ebola has been prevalent lately and also a drought. We can walk with God though! When just one soul is added to the Kingdom the heavens rejoice! God is in the process of redeeming mankind. From the place of bondage to the promised land there is a journey in between. Moses, taking account of his people, the ten commandments… the people were at the foot of the mountain. From Egypt to mount Sinai then went through the Red Sea… the wilderness… the journey was great! Because of their troubles during the journey, God gave them the law again in Deuteronomy. Rest your faith on God, the journey will never be easy, but God is faithful!
Sani Pass
If you ever have the opportunity to go, take it! We didn’t think we would get it but God granted us a Saturday afternoon to remember.
First Erika and I went to Touching Tiny Lives to play with babies then we headed home to get ready to go. It was about an hours drive down a scenic route. When we finally got there the clouds were so thick you could hardly see what was around the lodge. We crawled in and got comfy. We had hot chocolates and lunch while meeting all kinds of new people.
One person we met was a professor from Texas, another an ecologist from South Africa, and then a whole group of people from Lesotho! Everyone was so friendly jumping in to celebrate my birthday. We then made the drive back. Next time I would like to stay there in one of their little huts that you can rent out, because I am sure, some day, I will be back!
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:19).
