As I’m sure you all know by the title of this blog, I’m going to share about my overall experience. One of the most common questions I am planning on receiving is “how was your trip?” Which sounds like a great question right? I used to think that too and would always ask that to my friends who returned from mission trips but now I realize what a difficult question that is to answer. Typically when people ask that, people only want to hear about the most amazing parts of your trip but the thing is that would not be doing the Lord justice, that would not show the reality behind mission work and that would not be a just answer for those who are asking or for those who I was able to serve alongside with. In reality my trip was just as heartbreaking and painful as it was life changing and rewarding. The Lord truly broke my heart for what breaks His and that is not a fun process, in fact it lead to a lot of long conversations and some tears being shed. He also has done a lot of work within me, growing me in confidence and boldness but with that came unease and anxiety. My trip was amazing don’t get me wrong, if I could go back in time and had the option to do it all over again… I would without hesitation. I just want you to know that if you really want to know about how things were please please please ask to meet up, I would love to sit down and have a conversation with you about all that the Lord did over these past two months. But I want to warn you to be prepared for raw, honest and real answers. So if you truly want to know how my trip was feel free to dig deep with questions, you do not have to ask generic questions I’m challenging you to have conversations about how the Lord truly broke me down in order to renew me and how I want to come back changed.
Some good questions to ask are
•who was one person that impacted you the most
•how was the trip different than you expected
•what did your team do well in
•what was the most difficult part of your entire experience
•what challenged your faith
•what did you learn about God
•what healing or growth did Christ bring you on the field
•what did you learn that you want to take home with you
•what are your fears with coming home
•how is adjusting back to America
•how have you grown your intimacy with the Lord
•how has your perspective changed
•how are you coming home changed
•what is God asking you to walk into for the next season of your life
