Grace.

Have you ever put much thought into what these “christian-y” words really mean? Because I haven’t. Atleast, not until now.

A couple weeeks ago, my pastor was preaching about the resurrection (easter szn !!) and was talking about the why of Jesus’s death on the cross. Why would the King of the heavens need to die for us? To suffer such a death?

Then he spoke,” Grace is unmerited love.”

Ok, so I know what you’re thinking, ” Oh sweet girl. Duh.” But just work with me:)

To a girl, to a kid growing up in this era of technology and competition, where everything feels like it has to be earned and worked for (i.e. school, scholarships, friendships, athletic teams, getting recruited for collegiate athletic teams, etc..), where we literally apply for merit scholarships for college, the word unmerited is extremely significant. To hear that Jesus’ grace is unmerited was letting go of a breath I didn’t even know I was holding.

So, yeah. Grace=unmerited love. Our human brains cannot comprehend there’s nothing we can do to make Jesus love us more. No where is too far for Him. Reminds me of the song ‘Reckless Love’ by Cory Asbury. Not only is this love unmerited and unearned, God comes after us because He wants us. How beautiful is that.
