With being a Nursing Student at Vincennes University, I don’t get much time to do anything but work, class, study, fellowship with others on Tuesdays and Thursdays (when we either have bible study or mid-week service), and study my Bible for about 30 minutes to an hour depending on if I overslept or not.
Last Monday, I got to see some of my nursing skills pay off when God placed me in the right place at the right time. A student that goes here fell on the ground when they tried to get in the back seat of a car. I was eating left over tacos from the girl’s bible study (Free food!), when someone went inside to get more help. I immediately assessed the situation. She was on her back, felt dizzy, and had an increased temperature. My first thought was fluid circulation, so I elevated her legs to increase blood flow. After that didn’t work, I asked about her food and water intake. She admitted that she didn’t have anything to drink that day. Hearing that, I asked if anyone had milk because it contains electrolytes and the fluid to restore balance to her body. When she wouldn’t take it and wanted to close her eyes, someone brought a chair out. I made it clear that closing her eyes at this time will only make her situation worst. Some friends and I helped her into a chair. She was then able to drink the milk I gave her earlier. I assessed again and her temperature went back to normal. To be safe though, I told someone to get an apple if she felt dizzy on the drive home since it contains some water and electrolytes. When she was getting into the car, I did some further assessments and she said she just went off her corticosteroid that the doctor gave for her hip. I gave two main instructions after that – drink plenty of fluids once you’re home and that she might want to get her hip checked out and put on the steroid again.
She then went home and even though she couldn’t remember anything from last night, she was thankful to all who helped. God is truly good and it is so true when we shout out in praise that His faithful love endures forever. He puts us in situations for his glory. To show his unfailing love.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
