I’ve got some GREAT NEWS people… *drum roll*
I am COMPLETELY, 100%, without a DOUBT, fully fund-raised!!!
I credit all of it to God! I’m so grateful that He walked by my side throughout this fundraising journey since I first embarked on it back in January. Even in my moments of doubt, my God kept on pulling me though. My God is a God of Miracles, hallelujah!
Thank you to the moon and back for all the support I’ve received from family and friends. Your prayers, encouragement, and financial support means the world to me. Love you guys <3
So I’ve had a lot of curious people ask me questions such as…
“Where are you going, exactly?”
“When’s your Training Camp happening, and what are you doing?”
“What are you living out of?”
“Are you going alone?”
“Are you nervous?”
Well dear friends, I aim to answer all those questions for you and more!
QUESTION #1: Where am I going?
Just a little refresher for you, I will be leaving at the beginning of September 2019 and will get back to America roughly the first week of June 2020.
I’ll be spending 3 months in each country:
Thailand –> September-November
India –> December-February
Costa Rica –> March-May
QUESTION #2: Training Camp
Training Camp is July 8-19, in which all the squads being launched in 2019 are trained spiritually, physically, and culturally in preparation for the next 9 months.
Some of the stuff we’ll be doing:
-
Getting cultural training on the 3 countries we’ll being going to
-
Living out of our tent and pack for 2 weeks (!!!)
-
Attending a day-long Storytelling Workshop so I can learn how to better show Jesus through my testimony, blogging, photography, and vlogging
-
!!!SQUAD WARS!!! Intense competitions between the different squads [excited emoji]
-
Worshipping God as one body every day
-
Eating Thai, Indian, and Costa Rican foods
-
Hiking with our packs!
-
Being put through different scenarios we will/could encounter on the field (sleeping during an airplane layover, navigating a realistic foreign marketplace, buying enough local food for your team, losing your entire hiking backpack, and more).
Guess you’ll just have to go check out my blog @reganmartin.theworldrace.org to find out what I’ll be doing at Training Camp! [winking face]
QUESTION #3: My living arrangements
Basically, I’ll be a resident of Tent City for 2 weeks!
I’ll be living out of my tent and hiking backpack the whole time in preparation for the times we do use our tents on the Race. In fact, I recently decided to test it out and spent the night in my tent just to see what it felt like:
I had a blow up mattress pad, sleeping bag, compressible pillow (surprisingly comfy), and my trusty headlamp. All in all, I slept pretty okay… definitely was not used to falling asleep to the sound of thousands of crickets, then waking up to thousands of birds chirp-chirping away!
QUESTION #4: Who am I going on this trip with
Rest assured; I am going with a group of people and not all by my lonesome.
I’m going with my squad- a group of 47 other young Christian adults. We’ll all be living near each other within the country. My squad’s Instagram is @wrgyroute3. Within that squad, I have my team- my “family” of 6-8 people who I’ll spend the majority of my time with and grow close together. My team will be determined after Training Camp is over.
LAST QUESTION (I promise!): Am I nervous?
To be real with you guys, I’m actually not nervous. Both my parents and I know that this is where God wants me to be right now. If God has called me to something, He will provide a way to get there. I have had a few moments of doubt along the way, but my faith has grown during this time too.
Yes, I am not ready to say goodbye to my friends I’ve grown close with.
Yes, I am not ready to go a solid 9 months without hugging my mom, watching my dad be his goofy at 11 at night, or messing around with my 3 little brothers…
But you know what? I’m willing to give up everything I own, everything I am, to follow Jesus’ calling.
What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.
[ Philippians 3:8 ]
With love,
