We’ve officially completed our first full week of ministry at Agape Orphanage. It’s an orphanage for kids with h l v / a l d s. Our team has been doing yard work, sanding tables, painting a building that will soon be turned into a clinic. It’s been hard work and sometimes I get weary in well doing, but God is faithful and it’s truly worth it! We work in the morning/afternoons and then later in the afternoon we are given the opportunity to play with the kids after we have finished working for the day. At the beginning when I heard we were going to be working at Agape I was nervous about being around kids with this disease; I was scared to touch them or play with them. Yet, my mind kept going back to the event when Jesus touched the man with leprosy and was healed. Slowly, I began to play with them and hold them. Finally, I went all in and held the babies. (We are able to either play with the babies or toddlers, but I honestly have no idea what to do with the toddlers so I just stick with the babies!)
The baby I first held is a girl named Bonisa; she is so adorable! She’s so happy and smiley; I haven’t heard her cry once! As I was holding her I felt led to pray over her so I began to speak peace, blessings, and a prosperous life over her. And later that day I found out that she is in the process of being adopted!!!
Last night as I was thinking about all those children the Lord showed me something, some similarities between those kids and everyone else in the world. Bonisa did not choose this life for herself, but she needs to be held and loved just like any other child does. Some of these kids have been infected with this terrible disease just as each of us have been infected with the disease of sin. Yet, unlike I was/am, God is not scared or intimidated by our sin. Instead He sees us and longs to pick us up and love on us. So we should never be fearful to love on others just as God our Father would!
Prayer Needs:
continue to pray for healing of those sick and the health of each of us
pray that we will not grow weary in well doing, but that we will press on to do the work that the Lord has established for us
Psalm 90:17
“And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us; yes establish the work of our hands.”
