There are so many things I could write about training camp, such as the crazy foods that we tried, the dreaded fitness hike, the amazing sessions, tent life, etc.. but I want to share with you some truths that I learned during worship.

1. “Not Safe But Good”

      In the movie, Chronicles of Narnia, the king of the land is a lion named Aslan. They describe him as not safe but good. This is such an accurate description of our heavenly Father; He’s not safe but He’s good. In Psalm 136:1, 13-16 it says,

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

To Him who divided the Red Sea in two, For His mercy endures forever;

And made Israel pass through the midst of it, For His mercy endures forever;

But overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, For His mercy endures forever;

To Him who led His people through the wilderness, For His mercy endures forever”

This passage of scripture backs up this quote:

– He’s good

– He divided the Red Sea for His people! Would you say it’s safe to cross a divided sea? No! But, God is good, and He protected them along the way.

– He even went so far as to drown their enemies in the sea when they tried to cross!

– When His people were in the wilderness He didn’t leave them out there forever. He brought them through the wilderness and into the Promise Land.

– “He’s not safe, but He’s good!”

2. “Let Your Sails Down”

This comes from the song Sails by Pat Barrett. The comparison was made between us and a sail boat. When the sails are rolled up it won’t go anywhere, but when they are let down the wind can blow into them and it goes farther and farther. So we must let down the sails of our hearts in order that the Holy Spirit may have permission to breathe into our sails so that we may go further with Him. He will guide you in the right direction; just let Him show you the way.

3. “From Him and to Him are all things”

One night during worship I asked the Lord to show me something that He wanted to tell me, and He did! We were worshiping the Lord through this one song and there was this phrase in the song that continued to stick out to me. It says,

“For from You are all things,

and to You are all things.

You deserve the glory.”

      God comforted me with these lyrics by reminding me that all I have is from Him, and in return I give it all back to Him; therefore giving all the glory to Him because He deserves it and is worthy of it!

Reality had been hitting me that I will actually be away from my family for nine months, but through these lyrics God was telling me that He gave me my amazing family. So I must put them in His care, and remember that through this time He will be given much glory!

There are so many more things that the Father taught me and reminded me of at training camp, but if I wrote it all down there would almost be a book.

Maybe I’ll do another blog about TC later on so you can get a picture of what training camp looks like, but for now I leave you with these three lessons I learned:

– “Not Good But Safe”

– “Let Your Sails Down”

– “From Him and to Him are all things”
