This last week, I have spent getting to know my squad and have been learning so much at training camp here in Peru. God has wrecked me with the amount of beauty in leadership and those who I am running this race with. One of our squad coaches shared about the Father’s heart one evening and it was literally everything the Lord has been talking to me about in the last year. I am undone and so excited for what He is going to continue to show me in this journey.
One day I sat in the middle of the square in the city and observed as many were walking through the sidewalks going about their busy days. The area filled with tourists, locals, and people selling their artwork of many forms. To those who know me, you may not be surprised that God began speaking to me about the birds in the city. Not just any birds, but the pigeons. Many people don’t like pigeons. They walk through the streets with us and we often walk over them. They are often ignored, and not appreciated for their beauty. As I sat in the square, I noticed a woman in the distance feeding the pigeons. It reminded me of this scripture:
Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! – Luke 12:24
So why the pigeons? There is so much beauty to find in them. God was showing me His heart for those who often feel overlooked. Yet, He sees their needs and always cares for them and meets them. But can you imagine how much beauty we could find in those whom we pass by every day? Can you imagine sharing God’s heart with them through some simple love and compassion and getting to be a vessel to meet a human need in that way? Watching that lady feeding those pigeons really spoke to me as I watched her admire them. There is so much more to the heart of God that we could find in the things we often don’t take the time to appreciate. After all – it is His creation.
My team and I passed by a woman sitting in the alleyway a few times, when God led us to go back. We sat with her, and even though there was a language barrier – there was no barrier for the Holy Spirit. We held her hands and began praying and tears streamed down our faces. She was so beautiful and God’s heart in that moment was so strong. If we hadn’t taken a moment to stop, we wouldn’t have been able to truly appreciate the beauty in that woman.
Let’s consider the things that we don’t often consider – because God’s heart may just be in it and we may have some beautiful discoveries to uncover in the midst of it.
Okay, I wanted to also share with you all the amazing people that I get to be running with this year.
Meet my squad!
And my teammates who I will be spending the next several months with. Aren’t they the cutest?!
Thank you all for reading!
Much love,
Miranda
