I hear this phrase daily. Whether it be as I’m walking out of my dorm early in the morning as I look to my roommates in agreement that school is a struggle but that we must persist, or as I’m on my way to work after an exhausting day, “Lets get this bread” I say to myself as I laugh.
Now, I know that this is a silly example, and I’m cracking up as I write this but it makes so much sense that we say the phrase “lets get this bread” as we go off to work. We make the connection in our heads that money = food, and rightfully so because we obviously need money to buy food.
NOW, you definitely know where I’m going here so I’m just going to give you this: JOHN 6:35
“I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
GUYS. Jesus is the bread of LIFE. Literally the key to true happiness. The one who sacrificed everything so that we can experience everlasting life beside our brothers and sisters. No more sadness. No more tears. No more guilt. No more shame.
Let’s go after Jesus the way that we go after other things (specifically money), and even 10x more. Material possessions are cool and fun for a time but the joy that they brig does not last long. He is worth our discomfort. He is worth our sacrifice because of the sacrifice that He made for we who are so undeserving.
When you hear the phrase “lets get this bread” from now on, I hope you think of your relationship with the bread of Life, and how hard you work to go after Him. Think of how much He is worth to you, and how much time you are spending with Him. He is worth so much more than material things. He is worth so much more than anything the world can offer. If Jesus = Life then we should be going after him before anything else.
If I could, I just want to encourage you (and myself while I’m at it) to go after the Father before anything else. He is Life, and He is worth everything
LETS GET THIS FREAKING BREAD.
If there’s anything you need prayer for, or anything you want to talk about, always feel free to reach out!
Much Love,
-Michael
