I’ve slowly been reading a book called “Everybody Always” by Bob Goff (10/10 recommend btw). This book has been so insightful into the way that Jesus treated people and how we can become more like Him by simply loving people, all people. There was a question he asked in the first chapter (literally on page 2) that has really stuck with me though. The question was “How do we prove who we really are?”
You may think this is just an “eh” kind of question but it’s what I’ve been thinking about through all of 2019 so far.
How do I prove who I really am? Do I need to prove who I really am? If so, who am I trying to prove this to?
These questions have given way to a lot of anxious conversations in my head, long nights talking to friends, and sleepless nights filled with reflection.
Ultimately though, the question these all lead me back to is “Who am I?”
So, for the rest of this post, and for the sake of you knowing me better, I just wanted to share some insight into who I am:
- My name is Michael David Kennedy and I’m 22 **cue Taylor Swift**
- My favorite meal of the day is Breakfast, even though I don’t eat it that often. There’s just so much you can do with it, ya feel?
- I grew up in Peru (most of you know lol) but I’m not Peruvian, I’m a sweet mixture of Lebanese and Native American and Scottish- hence the tan skin
- Just listening is one of my favorite things to do. Like honestly, if you have a story (which you do) I’ll listen
- I often have to stop myself from analyzing people too much, but that’s okay
- I HATE seafood, and will only eat my mom’s tilapia
- I’m studying Counseling and Studio Art, hoping to do art therapy maybe with missionary kids but still don’t know for sure (but who ever really does?)
- Talking about outer space and movies and traveling really gets me going, man
- I’m a big fan of musicals, big fan
- Ill always crack a joke, especially if I can say it in a BAD Spanish accent
- I love driving, especially at night with the windows down (even if it’s cold I’ll roll them down and turn the heat up all the way lol) and my music all the way up
- Committing to things is v scary for me, but I’m working on it.
- I hate being lazy, but everyone knows that doing nothing every once in a while is good for the soul
- My “favorite” Bible verse is Joshua 1:9 because I always need the reminder to have courage (but also every time Jesus says “take heart” in the NT, I think that’s really cool)
- If I’m doing homework and you ask me to do something I will 10/10 times say yes because I can’t say no to an experience, especially if that something is outdoors
- I love hiking and swimming and surfing and enjoy taking naps in my hammock and *humble brag* am proud to say that I can stand up and walk on a slackline as of a few weeks ago
- I plan on buying a van and a surfboard and living on the coast one day. Catch me out there in a few years
- **LAST THING** The country I’m most excited about visiting is Nepal, which is the last country I’ll be going to on the Race! BUT I’m honestly equally excited about going to all of them
There’s so much more that I could say about who I really am, and a lot of these things are sort of surface level, but you’ll get to know me deeper through this blog later on. Thanks for getting to know me. I hope to get to know each of you, so please reach out!
If I could leave you with one thing that I’ve learned/done recently It’d be this: go to a mountain by yourself and pray out loud. It feels weird at first, but you’ll get used to it after a couple minutes. Let me know how it goes and what you learned. I promise theres something.
Anyway, Jesus loves you. Think about that.
Much Love,
– Michael
