I can’t believe I’m writing my first blog! It’s still SO unreal that in August 2019 I will be leaving for 11 months, visiting 11 different countries, and sharing the love of Jesus with the world. I cannot wait to see the work God is going to do through our team!
I’ve known about the World Race for a few years, but never EVER considered the possibility of going. Anytime I thought about it, thoughts and feelings of fear and doubt would race through my mind. “I’m too shy,” “I’m not that courageous,” “I could never raise enough money,” etc. It wasn’t until this past year that I finally let go and let God. 2 Timothy 1:7 says “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” So I started praying for courage, faith, and wisdom. Courage: to venture outside of my comfort zone (because when is God’s plan ever confined to our comfort zone?), faith: not to question God’s plan, but to just…DO IT (whatever “it” is), and wisdom: so that when these opportunities to have courage and faith were presented, I would recognize them and face them with confidence in Jesus.
So this fall, approximately September 2018, I was scrolling through someone’s pictures on Instagram who is on the World Race right now. I showed those pictures to someone and they said, “You should do that.” It was a simple and vague comment, but at that moment I thought, “You know what? YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!” So there began my journey.
Before I applied, I prayed for about a month for clarity and peace about this decision. I knew that if this wasn’t a desire from God, the desire would fade. But it never did. The desire grew even stronger. I knew this was from God because WHY ON EARTH would I want to leave the comfort of my home, family and friends? Well, because God calls us to GO. So I submitted my application on October 11, 2018 (which is exactly two months ago today. WHOA) and got the call on October 23, 2018 telling me I had been accepted. **cue the angels singing**
So…what is the World Race? It’s an 11 month mission trip, where we visit 11 different countries in 11 months. A team of 50-60 people, ages 21-35, will be split up into groups and spread the Gospel throughout each region. During our time in each country, we will visit towns and cities filled with people who are in dire need of Jesus. Some of the more secluded areas have never even heard the Gospel. Can you imagine? Throughout this adventure, we will be encouraging other believers and sharing our faith and our story with those that don’t know Christ. Our main goal is to invest in the lives of each community, listening to their stories, and encouraging them with the love and hope that only comes from Jesus.
Please pray not only for me, but for our whole team as we all take this leap of faith and trust God.
