Hey future me!! It is currently 9:42 AM on September 5, 2019. I‘ve already thrown up once because of nerves, and said my goodbyes to all my friends, siblings, and cats. I’m sitting on the floor in my bedroom, typing this up on my iPhone with both my big blue backpack and my small red backpack filled. Mom & I are leaving for the airport at 10.
I’m so ecstatic that the day’s finally here! Aaahhhh!! So I’m going to tell you about who I am right now.
Currently, I am a child of God who wants to invest fully in Him. I committed my life fully to Him back at Training Camp, but as you and I both know, I didn’t keep that promise. Here, on the Race, is another opportunity for me to fulfill it!! My dream is for you to come back to America with a heart full of Scripture and System 1/default godly thinking.
My hope for you is that God will make you whole. That he’ll fill in the cracks of your heart and your belief, and answer your questions (of which you always have many). My hope is that you’ll have a positive attitude as much as you can make it, because we both know that what I put into an experience, is what I get out of it. My hope is that you’ll accept yourself the way you are, height and humor and all.
Currently, I’m going to pray for you. Prayer is such a vital thing that I’ve been able to see- it heals and gives and hopes. I pray that God will help you be yourself. Don’t be a bystander! The world is full of darkness, and it’s waiting for the next person to step into it. That’s YOU! Matthew 5:13-16 says that you are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before others, so they can see the good I do in the name of my God.
Darkness swallows light, but a light always shines brighter when it’s surrounded by the dark. You’re going to places where people may have heard of Jesus, but don’t really know who He is. Or places where they’ve never before heard Scripture. Or places where Jesus is prevalent, but in a ungodly way. In all those places, Satan will try to stop you. He’s taking over the earth currently, while we’re all mortal and sinful. But YOU! God put you in the Race for a reason, and one of those reasons is to spread the light of His Word across all the nations.
But guess what? It’s not just on you. YOU do not and won’t save all of these people single-handedly. You have a team and God has a plan! You’re sowing the seeds of Scripture, and then leaving the rest to God. That’s what God is calling you to do!!
I can’t wait until you read this next year, or even sometime this year while on the field. God is always working in you, consciously and subconsciously.
And for all of y’all reading this? God’s working in each of YOU too. Isn’t it awesome?
