During training camp we had an “adventure day”. Basically all the squads broke up into their teams and we all went into town. My team, TNT, were trying to find a coffee shop because we hadn’t had any coffee and I was going through withdrawal. We went the wrong way and had to turn around, the parking lot that was helping us do that was a thrift shop. We had been talking about thrift shops earlier and decided that we had to go in. So we did and we walked around for a bit. Then this really tall guy in a tie dye shirt and white overalls named Critter came up and somehow we started talking. He was telling us all about his job, he tie dyes clothes and sales them online. I believe it was Sabrina who asked if we could pray for him. He got super excited and we all gathered in a circle and prayed for him. That was such a God thing.
Then we went to this shopping center that had no coffee. There was a book store, a gallery (www.gallerysq.com), and indoor plumbing. My sunflower moment happened in the gallery. I’m calling it a sunflower moment because my teams symbol is a sunflower. That’s what caught my eye, there was this little painting of a flower. So I walked in to look at it and I saw the lady working. God gently said go pray for her. I said no and kept on looking at the beautiful paintings. I finished looking at the paintings and God said it again a little louder so I said fine. I walked over and was like “Hi, my names Kristen. This is gonna sound a bit weird but can I pray for you?” Most awkward thing I’ve done in a long time. Thankfully she said yes and I prayed for her and told her why I was here and explained the race and introduced my team. Then the coolest thing happened… She draws on postcards and she gave me one she had just finished. You’ll never guess what she had already drawn on it… A SUNFLOWER! It was crazy, my jaw dropped. It was such God moment!! My mind is still blown.
And then we went to a coffee shop.
