Hello everyone!!
My name is Kristen Middleton. I am 22 years old and was born, raised and still live in Lubbock, Texas. My amazing Mom and Dad are the parents of three. I have an older sister (Kylie) and a younger brother (Luke)… I’m the middle child which explains a lot. I was raised in a southern baptist church and still attend the same church I grew up in. My parents took me out public school in the third grade because they decided to homeschool me. I did not and still don’t learn well in classrooms. They knew I learned at my own pace and need hands-on experiences. I am so thankful for my parents who saw what I needed and took action because they wanted me to succeed. From then to graduation I went to school in my pjs and ate home cooked meals for lunch. I played basketball for the Lubbock Titans (a homeschool team). Sports has always been a part on my life and because of this most of the time my analogies are basketball related… example: You play how you practice. If you aren’t in the word and are not communicating with the Lord how are you supposed to follow Him and live like Jesus did. I attended Wayland Baptist University for two long years. As I mentioned above I do not learn well in a “normal” school setting. I don’t like school… never have. Mostly because most of what I was taught was completely useless unless you were going to be a teacher (shout out to Mom and Kylie). My belief is if you can use it in your everyday life then it is worth learning, what is learning if you can not apply it.
Now that you know where I have come from here are some thing that are more up to date… Things that interest me:
-Traveling: There is something freeing about packing a bag and going somewhere new, but it also make you appreciate your home and it is always nice to go back.
-Music: I love all music! It speaks to you in ways words never could.
-Sports: I am competitive and love playing sports of all kinds
-Movies: I have an impressive movie collection. Though the movie itself might not fit the situation there is usually a quote that does… One of my absolute favorite quotes is this.. “Of course it’s hard! If it was easy than everyone would do it. Being hard is what makes it great.” (bet you can’t guess that movie) Movie doesn’t fit but the quote is on point.
Why the World Race?
Putting a more serious twist to the bio.. I didn’t really choose to go on the World Race, God did. I have been thinking about this trip for over a year. It first came up when I came back from a school trip (one of two good things that happened in college) to the UK. I realized then how much I enjoyed being in a new place and learning new cultures and meeting people. To go on the Race requires a lot of money though and I had just spent a ton of money going to England. God’s timing is always right and he has a way of letting you know. My favorite verse is Ecclesiastes 3:1 For there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven… This has been my favorite verse for a very long time but I never knew why until now. God was telling me that the time was not right and that there was some growing that I needed to do. At the beginning of the year my church went to Passion. I remember listening to Christine Caine (look her up she is awesome!) when she started talking about people that God used. They were not the smartest or the most popular, they were just people willing to follow God no matter what. The minute she started talking about this I heard God say “now you can go.” I knew I wanted to be one of those people who followed Jesus no matter what… so at the beginning of February I sent in my application, was excepted and here we are.
