In a few short months I am heading to Georgia for launch! How is it almost time to leave already?! The past few months have been crazy, BUT I have found out our Squad is Squad Z and I get to meet not only my teammates in August, but also Squad A/October 2019 Route 3. Sorry to everyone in advance for not remembering your names until most likely the last day! For those of you following, I am on the October 2019 Route 1! So….. In order, the countries I am heading to are:
Peru
Bolivia
Argentina
Togo
Ghana
Cote d’Ivoire
Nepal
India
Myanmar
Thailand
Malaysia
My team has decided it would be more fun to each pick a country and write a little bit about it to learn more about where we are going. I picked PERU!
A little info from the WR website:
Your journey on the World Race will kick off in South America, in Peru—a nation in the clouds. The Peruvian people are very proud and have a strong indigenous background. The closer you get to the mountains, the more people you’ll find wearing traditional dress and speaking in different local dialects. The main ministry Racers focus on in Peru is planting Christ-centered communities in the jungle. Racers doing this ministry live with the local people and share a daily routine with them. You could be leading locals in Bible studies, sharing your faith with families or simply helping prepare dinner. We also partner with an orphanage for children with special needs and a college ministry in Lima. This month will be heavily focused on relationships and community.
Fun/Random facts
- Peru is the 3rd largest country in South America, after Brazil & Argentina
- Capital is Lima
- Population is roughly 32 million
- Peru is almost double the size of Texas
- Official languages are Spanish & Quechua
- World’s largest rain forest, the Amazon, covers nearly half of Peru
- Cuy (guinea pig) is a traditional meat used in Peruvian meals
- Most alpacas are found in Peru
- There are over 3,000 varieties of Potatoes in Peru
This is our first stop on the race and not only is that exciting, but that means we have 10 more places to go after that! I am so excited to be immersed in the culture, make relationships, and get to practice my Spanish! If y’all want to read more about the 10 other countries we are going to, I will edit this post in a few weeks and link my teammates posts below!
Until All Have Heard,
Kristen
