I made it to training camp in one piece! Not that it was difficult, camp is only a couple minutes from where I went to high school.. Seriously! This place has basically been in my backyard and I didn’t even know it. HA. I’m currently eating some honey BBQ Fritos outside 🙂
The first couple days were extra cold and rainy, but today is revealing a bit of God‘s beauty through a blue sky and some light wind. Thankfully we‘re sleeping inside, but the porta potties have made people brave the weather for better or worse, lol.
Training camp is full of Race alum sharing their stories and field tips, reminders of how to be a lovely guest, and discussing how the good news is different for each person. One of the coolest takeaways is an understanding of how Jesus introduced himself in ways that applies to others. A relationship with Jesus is not a “one size fits all” type of relationship. During one session the speaker instructed us to grab a partner, listen to who they are, how they are, what they believe, and then to try to piece what the good news of the gospel is for them. It was challenging, but it shed a new light on how to engage in conversation, I’d recommend it.
In another session, the same speaker instructed us to flip that situation. In short, what is the good news of the gospel for me? I was introduced to Jesus at 15, and began my personal relationship with him shortly after. The good news that was true then, and still is today, is that no matter how broken I am, God loves me unconditionally and is here to piece me back together in His perfect image. WOW.
Another session was about spiritual healing, but I’ll save the goodness of that for my next blog.
