Sanibonani (hello)! It’s hard to believe that I’ve been here for 3 weeks already! God has taught and shown me so much in such a short time. It’s incredible to see Him work in my life, the life of my teammates, and the lives of the people we meet.
Our days are spent working with one of the local Care Points. Before we finish our 3 mile walk, a group of kids come racing over to us, wanting to hold our hands, be held, or practice their English. My team and I walk the rest of the way with big smiles, talking and laughing with these kids we have come to know and love. We teach Bible lessons in the morning, acting things out with a skit. The kids look on in amazement as Goliath falls, Saul is blinded, and Eve takes a bite of the apple. Game time ensues and we play till we drop. Simon Says, Little Sally Walker, Duck Duck Goose, and tons of different games that they have to teach us. The kids laugh at us as we try our best to jump in and then completely fail. Lunch every day is rice and beans, which little kids end up getting in my hair without fail:). We spend the rest of the day chasing kids around the playground, sliding down the slides with 10 kids on our laps, spinning kids till we can’t see, and singing Jesus loves me on repeat. The end of the day is the best kind of exhausted.
Getting the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus every day by showing these orphaned children that they are loved and that they matter fills me with joy like nothing else can. God is showing me so much: the power of being held, the importance of being present- even if it’s just in silence, and the beauty in resting in Him daily. I see God so vividly in nature, so being in this place of such incredible beauty has made His presence seem so so close. Each day I grow to love this county and it’s people more and more. Thank you all so much for your continued prayers. It is so encouraging to know I have people thousands of miles away that are praying for me. I’m so excited to see how God will continue to use my team and me, and I will try my best to keep you all updated on all God is doing.
