Aaron Burgess
This is Aaron. He was born and raised in Canada and then moved to Georgia when he was 15. Since then he has been playing college soccer, instructing water skiing, and being awesome. He is in his junior year of college for speech therapy and can do a backflip on a wakeboard. Aaron is an amazing leader, giver, and no matter the circumstance his focus remains on Jesus. He will turn 21 on the race and currently only has 1 tattoo. A couple of days before training camp he destroyed his arm while doing a waterski pyramid which is just what it sounds like. His best friend is his nephew and really enjoys running. Aaron is incredibly friendly, athletic, consistent, Godly, and hairy. Aaron is incredibly down to earth and humble. His friendship surpasses the troubles that I am having in the day and his smile always lifts the mood. Our Squad is truly Blessed to have him.
Austin Buckner
Austin is 18 years old and is from North Carolina. He is the most clumsy person I’ve ever met and he is great at photography. He has two older sisters and both of his parents are college professors. He is ambitious, wise, strong, courageous, good looking, and filled with the word. He plays the guitar and leads worship almost every night. His work ethic is amazing and his curly hair is Disney channel status. Since launch, he has eaten over 75 McDonalds ice cream cones, done a forward roll in every airport, nearly broke a longboard in the mall, and lost his water bottle countless times. He has spoken so much wisdom into me that truly helps me in my walk with the Lord. We are all thankful for his musical talent but I am thankful for his courageous spirit, soft heart, and incredible friendship toward me.
Izac Grooms
Izac is 19 was born and raised in Gainesville Georgia and has never been on a plane before the 72 hour travel day we had. He has plans to be self-sufficient and start a village where people live off the land. He is the oldest of 5 kids, has gorgeous hair, and plays more instruments than I can count. He is a survival expert, listens to Japanese rock and is always quoting vines. Whenever we are in the chill room he puts me to sleep with his soft guitar strokes. He is extremely coordinated, peaceful, and can take spicy food even if he has to shed a tear. He adds knowledge and experience to our team that no one else has. Without Izac we would be dead in a ditch by now.
James Geither
James is 18 years old and is from Ohio. He is extremely calm, peaceful, collective, smart, and tall. In high school, he was a shot put and discus star. Since we have been in Thailand he has bought more crepes than I can count and has taken every opportunity he can to work out at the local gym. James is also extremely good at baking and cooking which is just what our team needs. He spent so much of his own money to buy cake pans so he could cook us cakes on our birthdays. He explained to me the difference between cooking and baking and I never even knew there was a difference. James was raised in a very conservative catholic home which impresses me that he found the courage to convert his faith and come on this long term mission trip. James is a great addition of diversity and creativity to our team.
Logan Gee
This is Logan. He is 18 years old and was born in Virginia then moved to California when he was 5. His personality is truly like no other. He is funny in the most ridiculous ways and is so caring and hospitable to his team. He drives a 1977 green VW beetle and owns a boat. He enjoys photography, making people laugh, volleyball, essential oils, and chai tea. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening and blending essential oils. Logan is addicted to coffee, great at spike ball, super tan, and his brother looks like Kurt Cobain. He was my tent buddy at training camp and every morning he would wake me up so I did not miss Devo. To this day he wakes me up before I miss something and makes sure that I am not falling off any cliffs. I am thankful for Logan because of his kindness, sincerity, compassion, humility, and he makes me laugh like nobody else does.
Sam Osuna
And last but certainly not least, Sam. Sam is 20 years old and is from Nashville Tennessee and living there apparently has its perks. He has seen Miley Cyrus at the mall, done construction in Lady Gaga’s house, and when he was growing up he was best friends with Kesha’s younger brother. Sam is the most smiley and joyous person I have ever met and he will not hesitate to make you laugh. He was my ride to Atlanta from Gainesville and he has two older brothers. It is truly a blessing to be in his presence. He is kind, energetic, courteous, thoughtful, humble, hilarious, and addicted to Coca-cola. He doesn’t like chocolate, peanut butter, paying for laundry and is a really good painter. He is extremely loyal and I truly can’t find the words to express his level of kindness and gratitude. I am so blessed to have his friendship.
I am truly blessed with the team that God gave me. It is filled with courageous Godly men with a heart after Jesus. They will all be true brothers for the rest of my life.
