Håfa Adai! My name is Jeffery Fain. I’m 25 years old and am currently in my second year of teaching 6thgrade on the island of Guam. When I’m not teaching, I’m helping with the teens at church, hiking, snorkeling, and experiencing cultures from all over the world.
I was born in the great state of Kentucky. When I was four, my family moved to Guam for four years, and then we moved back to Kentucky. My dad has been a pastor since before I was born. My mom stayed at home with my siblings and me, and she helped with the church as well. I’m the oldest of four siblings; I have two brothers, Nicholas and Logan, and a sister, Arielle. I thought I was saved at a young age, but I battled with conviction for salvation for about five years. When I was 19, I got saved at my home church. I immediately started looking for ways to serve, which eventually led me back to Guam for summer camp and then my current job as a 6thgrade teacher.
My family taught me many lessons that I believe have prepared me for traveling on this mission trip. As a family, our home has always been open to those who need a place to stay. Anyone in need could always come and stay with us for as long as they needed. This shaped my desire to love and help people. If a friend needs help, I try to meet his or her need. In addition, my home shaped how I view people. For example, my parents always genuinely loved others. They showed that love is proven through action. Living on Guam also impacted my heart. Guam is home to many different nationalities, and it has made me appreciate other cultures. I love learning about other ways of life and especially God’s gift of languages. When I was living on Guam as a young boy, I first wanted to be a missionary.
So why the World Race? I heard about this organization from some friends, and my brother also applied for the June trip. I see this trip as an awesome opportunity to visit different people groups and learn why people think as they do, so I can understand people better. I want to use this trip as an opportunity to look for what God wants me to do in the future, to grow closer to the Lord, and to see people come to Christ. I just want to be used by God. I pray that God will do awesome things and that we’ll see souls saved and people’s lives healed. God has promised that if I’m faithful, his word will not return void.
How can you get involved? First, please pray that my mind would stay focused. We will be going to awesome places and meeting amazing people, but God is going to have hard things waiting as well. Pray that my focus would remain on Christ. Second, please pray as I raise funds. The amount seems like a lot now, but God will provide in his own time if that is his will. Third, please consider donating, whether through a one-time gift or monthly support.
I want to remember Philippians 2:9-11 as I go, which says, “For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow—in heaven and on earth and under the earth—and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
