Dear Younger Me,
Where do I even begin? All that I can really share is you’ve got a lot to learn. I would start with finding who you are sooner rather than later. Don’t wait as long as I did before I recognized that I belong with God and not the world. Let me give it to you straight… the world will lie straight to your face and act like nothing happened. God will never lie to you. His Yes means Yes and No means No. Listen to him closely. What you think you have in mind for yourself is going to change whether you like it or not. I remember when Marine Biology was a thing for me, then God decided otherwise. Remember to say yes to what he has planned.
Another thing, focus on the right things. I’m going to be honest with you again, don’t fall into traps. There will come a time when people come along and try to led you astray. Speaking from experience, it is not a wise idea to go in that direction. From past relationships to friends you have grown up with all your life, there are things that you hopefully won’t do. They are merely learning experiences that I am teaching you now to stay away from. If there is one thing that I would share with you it would be this song by MercyMe. This pretty much will sum up everything I could tell you but obviously I would be in more detail.
Dear Younger Me by MercyMe
Dear younger me
Where do I start
If I could tell you everything that I have learned so far
Then you could be
One step ahead
Of all the painful memories still running thru my head
I wonder how much different things would be
Dear younger me,
Dear younger me
I cannot decide
Do I give some speech about how to get the most out of your life
Or do I go deep
And try to change
The choices that you’ll make cuz they’re choices that made me
Even though I love this crazy life
Sometimes I wish it was a smoother ride
Dear younger me, dear younger me
If I knew then what I know now
Condemnation would’ve had no power
My joy my pain would’ve never been my worth
If I knew then what I know now
Would’ve not been hard to figure out
What I would’ve changed if I had heard
Dear younger me
It’s not your fault
You were never meant to carry this beyond the cross
Dear younger me
You are holy
You are righteous
You are one of the redeemed
Set apart a brand new heart
You are free indeed
Every mountain every valley
Thru each heartache you will see
Every moment brings you closer
To who you were meant to be
Dear younger me, dear younger me
There will be times when life hits you hard. When these times arise, you have people around you that you can talk to. It will be best if you talk to someone rather than hold it in. Go out for lunch or grab a drink but do something so that you feel more at ease talking to people about the situations. People care more about you thank what you think. People will miss you more than what you think. You may believe, because you keep telling yourself, that no one notices you but people do. Do not be afraid to be vulnerable with others.
Sincerely,
Jason, the older version of you
