What comes to mind when you think of being a servant? Do you follow the world’s definition or the Bible’s definition? In simple terms, a servant in the Bible is a devoted and helpful follower or support. Taking on the form of a servant comes in many forms. First, God called Abram out of the land he lived to go to the Promised Land. Abraham followed obediently to God’s command. Abraham was fully devoted to God’s calling upon his life. Obedience is one form of being a servant which can be seen all over the Bible. Isaiah opened himself up to go and do what God has asked of him (Isaiah 6:8-13).

Another form of being a servant is love. In 1 Peter 1:22, “Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly loveLove one another earnestly from a pure heart.” God has instilled in us his love since the beginning of time when he created us in his own image. Many times throughout the Gospels, they speak on Jesus acting on compassion towards others. He has the Father’s love pouring out within him.

In the world today, people have become to prideful when it comes to letting other serve them. In the program I am currently attending, H.E.A.R.T., there are times where this occurs. Coming from someone who has a servant heart, it is really hard to let someone else serve you. A lot of the times, we try not to burden each other so we would rather do it ourselves. Sometimes I would disappear from the group and start to work like in the gardens (trying to serve) but to them it may seem different.

The best analogy that comes to mind when it comes to servanthood is marriage. In a marriage, each person is fully devoted to each other. Whatever circumstance in a Christian marriage each person devotes their time and love to one another.

Through this time of serving one another, you can also serve as well. As most of you know I am in the middle of the fundraising process for the upcoming trip. My first deadline in on May 17 of $5,000. In order for me to go on the trip I need to make the deadline or I either get differed or can’t go. I pray for whoever is reading this and their willingness and obedience to God to help serve one another in love.
