Our two month trip to Thailand has sadly ended, all of us have had to say goodbye to our new friends. It’s bittersweet leaving Thailand; on one hand I am very excited to be experiencing a new country with different people and cultures and on the other hand I am sad to leave the city and people that I’ve become familiar with after spending only two months here. After many long and cramped bus rides we finally arrived in Georgetown, Malaysia. It is a beautiful town with European architecture and very interesting and unique people. The population consists of primarily Malay,Chinese and Indian locals. The streets smell of curry and spices and I am very excited to try all the weird and unique foods.
About a week before leaving for Malaysia, I was asked to join our squad’s logistics team! Being on logistics involves taking care of all of our squad’s expenses, including money for transportation, food, communication and any other secondary expenses that we might need. Along with organizing expenses, we also arrange transportation to and from countries and we arrange places to live while we stay in our countries. While I am still very inexperienced with the process, I am very excited to be able to serve my squad in any way that I can.
I’m not very flowery with words, but I want people to know that I am having a terrific time here. I’m ecstatic to have the opportunity to get to know the locals and being able to spread the love of God to others. This time here has helped me grow into a better person who is more confident in my faith and my abilities. I am surrounded by people who are very different from me and share different outlooks on life compared to what I’ve grown up with. While I don’t agree with everything that people around me say and I disagree with many of their points of view, It has been a good experience to be able to challenge my preconceptions. My identity will always be with Christ, I want to emphasize that, but it’s been interesting to be able to see where different people come from and why they believe what they do. If you don’t challenge your beliefs and preconceptions, then you can’t defend them. I want to thank everyone for the support and prayers and I hope that everything is going well at home!
