I have written a couple of blogs since the last time I sent one out, but I believe God is having me hold onto them for now as I am processing through some things and learning to lean into God more during this time. However, I wanted to at least send out an update on our second month here in Malaysia!
We have been in Penang for a week and it’s already been way different than last month. This month we are doing multiple forms of ministry. So far I have been a part of helping in the soup kitchen which is a place where we help cook meals to bless the homeless community here. It has been a very humbling experience. And we have also been working alongside PenHOP which is the Penang House of Prayer where we spend a lot of time in the prayer room growing in our intimacy with the Lord and intersession prayer on topics going on in the world today. We also have people working at a thrift shop that helps fund the soup kitchen as well as a few others working with children who have parents working with the refugees here. It’s a lot but it’s going to be amazing getting to be a part of multiple forms of ministry and prayer time!
At PenHOP we have a Friday night burn where we pray and worship for 4 hours and then we also have a day where we pray and fast for 7 hours straight in the prayer room. I have never done something like that before, but it was really good! I was praying into spiritual gifts, where God wants to grow me, as well as praying while reading through Matthew. Towards the end we spent 2 hours of intersession prayer in regards to abortion in Southeast Asia. It’s a very sensitive issue for me so I am glad we spent the time praying over it and the people’s hearts who are involved in it in some way.
Working in the soup kitchen has actually been a very humbling and fun experience so far! I have learned new ways to chop, peel, and prepare foods I have never cooked before. I also got to gut probably around 100 little fish for the first time with one of my squad mates. Strangely, that was one of the most fun times I’ve had! It was two people doing something new while making the most out of it. I was also very humbled by how they let very little food go to waste. They make the food in a way that will make it go the furthest to feed as many as possible. I feel very blessed to be a part of all of this!
Also, just logging in here to post this I saw that someone donated the exact amount I need to be fully funded!!! Praise the Lord!!! Whoever you are, thank you so so so so much!!!! AHHH!!! You are such a blessing! God bless you!!
That’s pretty much it for now! Please let me know if you guys have any questions or prayer requests! I will have many hours to pray on them 😉
Love you all!
Isabel
