NO

A word that can inflict pain.

NO

A word that can create doubt.

NO

A word that has reigned in my mind.

NO

A word that has stopped me from dreaming, hoping, expressing.

Today I bring into words something that I have never admitted to myself, something that I have disguised with humor, pride, and silence… REJECTION.

How ironic, a feeling so piercing to the heart is so entwined with a simple two letter word. A word so easy to say, NO.  A word that takes up so little room yet it stings like no other, NO.

So what do you do? What do you do when you fear rejection? Well if you are anything like me you avoid the situation at all costs. You avoid asking, hoping, and expressing. Instead, you become realistic and self-reliant. You label yourself as prideful and a go-getter. Although the reality is that you are to afraid to hear the word: NO. You are too afraid of being disappointed, too afraid of vulnerability.

The funny thing about fear is that you can only run for so long. At one point it catches up and it sets camp in between you and your dream. You realize that you have two options: overcome it or walk away. I choose to overcome it. I choose to humble myself. I choose to need help. I choose to ask.

Matthew 7:7 says:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

God never intended for us to do things alone. He never intended for us to be self-reliant and afraid. He is a provider and there is a sea of blessings waiting for us when we choose to die to our fears. When we choose to accept that we can’t live a life without him. When we choose to see that his 1% is always greater than our 99%.

So I choose to slay my giant with a greater word… GOD.

For I know in my heart that GOD’s YES surpasses all NOs.

If you haven’t already make sure to:

Stay blessed.
