After living abroad for a few months, I have learned to appreciate the little things about life here in guatemala (and life in general)! There are some things I have learned to appreciate here that I never knew would bring me so much joy! Here’s a cute little list of the little things:

  • Sunrise behind the mountains we can see from the base

  • The quiet hours I have in the morning with the Lord before everyone gets up (I like to call it morning tea time with Jesus)

  • Guatemalan black coffee

  • Fruit from the market (specifically bananas)

  • An empty chicken bus (very rare)

  • Kittens and puppies at the market

  • The fact that all the bus drivers know us and yell “Missiones, Missiones!!” every time they see us catching a ride home

  • The smell of sweet bread on the street

  • The peace and quiet of Bola de Oro

  • Getting tacos before ministry in the city every tuesday

  • When our ministry host Brayan understands everything we say despite the language barrier

  • Meeting sweet children on the bus

  • The feeling of coming back to the base after a long day, “we made it!!”

  • When Val collapses on the grass the moment we get home and says “I LOVE THE BASE”

  • Having a clean room

  • Talking to Sandra and Teresa (our cooks) before meals, and helping them in the kitchen

  • Having fellow theatre kids on my team (Chels and Mak), we often times belt our favorite musicals when we are doing chores, it makes me feel at home

  • Chels changed my sheets, made my bed, and left me a sweet note which made my entire LIFE

  • Having meals with the whole squad

  • Spontaneous worship sessions with the squad

  • Borrowing other people’s clothes when you get sick of your own five shirts

  • An 8 minute shower on the weekends! (as opposed to the usual 5 mins)

  • Night time cereal time with my team

  • Crawling into my team leader’s beds to to hang out and soak up their love and wisdom

  • Having time to read for pleasure!!! HALLELUJAH

  • Having dry, clean clothes (when it doesn’t rain while my clothes are on the line outside)

  • Team dinners on the weekends

  • Restful weekends

  • Cool coffee shops

  • Chai lattes!!! (my new favorite since being here)

  • Fun music on the bus and in coffee shops

  • Writing blogs

  • Taking cute photos of my team!

  • Calling my family without being rushed

  • Filing an insurance claim from when I had a parasite!!! Adulting!

  • Sweet conversations with my squadmates

  • scrapbooking nights (journaling, painting, eating cereal, talking about life, and taping fun things in our journals, listening to music, the options are endless!)

And so much more…

Peace and Blessings,
