Last weekend we had the opportunity to participate in a huge event called Guatemala Adora Jesus. It’s an opportunity for Guatemalans (and others) to come and have unity in Christ. The mission is “ A Una Sola Voz” or “Just One Voice”. This event was held in Quetzaltenango (or Xela pronounced Shayluh), which is in west Guatemala (about 2.5 hours away from the base). Quetzaltenango is also where I was two years ago on my first mission trip! Thanks God for that moment of remembrance!

Some of the Adventures Guatemala Staff who were in charge of this conference had invited us to join and serve as the prayer team. They also said they would provide lodging and food, so we were all in! We love Jesus and free food!

So on Friday, we packed our day packs and sleeping gear and headed on a bus to Xela! A really nice church hosted us in their space and it was a mega church so the place was huge. This was our first “world race” experience because we were sleeping on tile floors and we were packed like sardines (good thing we prepped for this at training camp haha). But as soon as we got to Xela we met the team from the church and went out and handed out fliers for the event! We went to central park and prayed for people and sang some worship songs to get the word out for Guatemala Adora Jesus! After that, we went to a church service at the place we were staying and it was possibly the longest and most passionate service I’ve ever experienced. But man, it was so powerful. It got us so pumped for what God is doing and will do through the event.

So after a nice restful sleep on the hard cold floor, we got up at the crack of dawn and went to breakfast! We had Chapin breakfast (our favorite) and had a time for prayer and worship over the whole day. Then we went to the field where the event would be held and picked up a lot of trash. We also had a time to pray over the land. I had the coolest experience with my squamate, Leanna, where we walked for an hour straight and prayed. We just walked and talked to God together and it was such a sweet time. The cool thing was that whatever Leanna prayed out loud, God had put that same thing in my heart. And vice versa. It was like literal mind reading, I was blown away. God is so cool. After more prayer, we went back to central park and worshipped, handed out fliers to invite people to the event, and prayed for more people.

Then the time had come!!! Guatemala Adora Jesus!!

From 5pm to 10pm we were worshipping the Savior of the world. I am just so in awe of how God communicates his love to people no matter which culture they are from or which language they speak. There were thousands of people there just giving their all to God and it was such a beautiful sight. I wish I could write about everything that happened and how people were impacted, but only God knows. I just know that God is powerful and is working miracles in Xela, all of Guatemala, and all the world.

I don’t think I’ve spent so many hours in a row praying and worshipping. I was sad to leave even though I was beyond exhausted. I didn’t want to leave the “holy spirit high”. But God revealed to me that being in a constant state of praise is not a one time deal. It’s a life style.

My prayer is that our praise will never go weary and that we will know that His spirit will never run dry.

Peace and Blessings,
