Hi! My name is Hallie. I am from El Dorado, a small town in Kansas. I am a senior in high school. I am currently involved in Student Council, Drumline, Band, National Honor Society, Kansas Association for Youth, and Girls Swimming. In my limited free time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family, boating at Table Rock Lake, and traveling.
I have always loved being around kids. While growing up in church, I always wanted to be in the nursery to play with the babies. My first mission trip was to Haiti when I was thirteen. I went to #1 Hope Street Orphanage, an orphanage that a family friend of ours founded with her ministry, Christoper’s Hope Ministry. While I was there, I mostly played with the kids since I wasn’t able to be much of a help to the men on my team that were building bathrooms. While playing with the hopesters, not only did I make new friendships that would last a lifetime, but I found my passion. My passion was to love children who felt unloved. I fell in love with Haiti and had to return. I have gone back to #1 Hope Street three times. After being in the process of planning my fourth trip, I began praying for guidance. This is when I learned about Adventures in Missions.
A friend of mine is currently on the gap-year trip. I began following her posts, reading her blogs, and seeing her amazing pictures. I decided to look into the organization and found World Race: Semesters. After seeing the travel options for the summer, I knew I had to apply. I brought it up to my parents and they seemed a bit eerie, but they didn’t say no! I decided to apply and continue with the admissions process. After being accepted, I took some time to really talk with my parents about the trip, who were quick to jump on board after seeing my excitement about a this new adventure.
I will be going to Costa Rica for the month of June. I will attend training camp at the Adventures in Missions Headquarters in Gainesville, Georgia May 30th – June 1st, and leave from there for Costa Rica with my team on June 2nd. While we are there we will be teaching English to children of Costa Rica, participating in door-to-door evangelism, and so much more! When my team returns at the end of June, we will have a couple days in Georgia to debrief and spend time some with each other to reflect on our trip before returning home.
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn more about me and my passion for serving others. I can’t wait to embark on this journey and continue to show God’s love to children around the world. Please pray for me, my family, and my teammates (who I have yet to meet) while we dive into this adventure together!
Love,
Hallie
