Sorry everyone for not blogging recently! The WiFi has been inconsistent so I’ll be putting up two blogs today!
For those who don’t know, last Sunday was my birthday and I wanted to share what I did last weekend to show you a little glimpse of how awesome my team of guys is!
On Saturday around 12, the guys got me out of our room and told me we were going somewhere. We hopped on a Khumbi going in the opposite direction from basically anything and got off at a random dirt road that we walked down for a few minutes until we got to a homestead. They told me that we were at the house of our awesome cook, Dolly, and that we were buying a chicken from her so that I could kill it and we’d cook it as a team. Dolly got home a few minutes later and caught the chicken and tied it up so I could take it on a Khumbi back to the base.
Once we got back to the base, we got to work on getting him killed, which I’ll skip the details of to spare those who wouldn’t enjoy it. After processing the chicken we had it ready to cook, but it was almost dinner time so we put it in the freezer to cook on my actual birthday. We ate dinner and ended the night by building a big fire and hanging out there for a while.
The next morning I woke up to the Spur birthday song (Spur is a South African chain that has a really funny birthday song that they blast over the speakers – definitely worth looking up). This was my only wish for my birthday and it was one of the funniest ways I’ve ever been woken up in my life. They got me out of bed a little later and told me to come outside. I walked out to 100 muffins made by Lolo, my friend from Savemor that makes the best muffins in the world, that spelled out happy birthday Ford, and a big birthday cake made by Lolo. That night as we were eating the cake, my team leader gave me a card that he made and had the whole squad sign and write notes on. It was an amazing gift that I’ll keep with me forever.
I wanted to share this to show y’all just how amazing my brothers on my team are. They didn’t have to do any of the stuff they did, but they did it all with joy because that’s just who they are. I’m so thankful for them and how they serve me and the whole squad so well and how they consistently point me to Jesus every single day.
Thanks for reading!
