For my first blog post I’m going to tell y’all how I decided on the World Race!

Over the past few months, as I was deciding what colleges I would like to look into possibly attending, I had a thought in the back of my mind that a gap year might be something I should look into, but I kind of dismissed the idea because it didn’t seem like something that anyone else I know is doing, so why should I do it? Coincidentally, my second cousin, who I follow on Instagram, happened to be going on the world race semester trip this semester. I thought that was pretty cool, but I still didn’t think that was something that I would be able to do, I mean, everyone goes to college right after high school. It would be foolish not to, right?

Throughout this time, my parents and I had been praying consistently for guidance about what I should do next year. One day, my dad asked me if I had ever heard of something called the world race. I told him that I had, but didn’t really know much about it. He told me I should look into it, so I did. The next couple of days I spent hours researching this thing called the World Race, and it seemed like it was truly an answer to prayer right from the beginning. The more I looked into it, the more I thought it would be the perfect way to spend a year before college.

After a couple days of researching, instead of asking Why the World Race, I started thinking Why NOT the world race? There was almost nothing that seemed like a reason not to do it. At first, I thought it might be weird to be a year behind all my best friends, but then I realized why does it matter? They’re still my brothers and I know that it will stay that way even if I’m a year behind them. I’m going to be spreading the love of Jesus for 9 months in countries that would have seemed like very distant places just a few weeks ago. When else am I going to have that opportunity? Probably never, so why not take it now when I have the chance!

Also, everyone I talked to, whether in my church, school, family, or even people I didn’t really know, was super supportive of the idea, which has to count for something!

All these things considered, along with lots of prayer, I decided that the World Race gap year would be an amazing way to spend this next year of my life.

I still don’t really know what God will have in store for me in Swaziland, Thailand, and Nicaragua next year but I’m super excited to embark on this journey in September and find out!
