Hi there! My name is Emily Schmalz, I am 22 years old and I have lived in Colorado my whole life! I attended Colorado State University where I studied Finance and Economics. I came to know Jesus during my junior year at CSU! As I began to intimately know who God was, he started to break my heart for all the pain in the world, specifically human trafficking. Children were being trafficked all over the world and I was sitting in the comfort of my suburban home trying to figure out how I could retire by 40. “God, what can I do? God, how about I get a job in finance for a few years and THEN go into my call? God, I want to help but I can’t even make an impact on issues this big” “Yes, Emily. You are right. You can’t make an impact on these issues. But I can. Proclaim my name to the people who are at the root of these issues and by my spirit I will change the hearts of the oppressors.” “Oh.” So that’s how I got called to ministry.
For the past few months I have been working as an intern at my local church. I can confidently say I serve in the best Young Adults ministry in the world. My team is amazing, I get all the snacks, and I have unlimited access to people’s lives. I can get coffee with somebody, hear their story, chat about Jesus and repeat – it’s the life. A fellow intern (hi linds if you are reading this) had just completed the race and asked me if I would ever do it. I like my own bed, I’m a home-body, and I really don’t like bugs or humidity. The World Race sounds like a terrible idea for somebody like me. So naturally I applied. Surprisingly I got accepted. Miraculously God delivered the deposit. Prayerfully I committed and voila! I am a world racer. Who knows what Jesus has in store for the next phase of my life, all I know is I am meant to tell people his amazing truth and allow him to do the rest.
