Everyone has different images that come to mind when they hear the word serving. God has really been teaching me a lot about what it means to serve, and my image of serving has been changed forever. I’ll be the first to admit that serving others has not always come easily to me. There has been multiple times that I have “forgot” to unload the dishwasher or mow the lawn. This may not seem like serving, but I’ve come to the realization that everything I do is to serve the Kingdom. Even though it may seem insignificant, it’s not about the act, but the attitude. I want to be the person that jumps on the opportunity to serve. Ultimately, serving others out of love, is serving God.

Here in Thailand for the last week we started working with Agape home in Chiang Mai. They’re an orphanage that takes in children, and some mothers with HIV/AIDS. These children rarely get adopted, so they work to find homes for them and teach they how to live with their disease. Everyday we have been playing and loving on the kids for awhile, but the majority of the day we have been working in a house at Agape that teenagers had been living in before. We painted the entire house and gave it a deep clean in preparation for some nannies to live there. It’s been very rewarding to see the transformation

I’ve really enjoyed this past week. It’s been fun getting to know my teammates better and serving along side of them. I don’t have any other agenda while I’m here except to serve. This is the reason I’m here. This isn’t a weekend project to get done around the house. So I take pride in what I’m doing, and do it intentionally. Usually I would rush through with the “git-r-done” attitude. However that feeling of dreading something has completely vaporized. I just want to serve Him in anyway that He calls me to. I have found comfort in simply resting in His work, and I hope I can continue to have this attitude throughout the remainder of my trip and when I return home.

Blessings from my team and I,

Ellie.
