I remember thinking when I was younger that you had to have it all together to share the gospel. I thought that it mattered exactly what I said, how I said it, or where I said it for it to have an impact. I also thought I needed to know all of this knowledge before speaking out about it.
This trip has reminded me that I not only need to forget this assumption but rest in the truth that all I need is an obedient heart willing to step out in bold faith.
Yesterday we were given the opportunity to share the gospel with a girl in a street market. We stopped at her tent and learned about her business. We then went on to ask if we could pray for her and she responded with “what’s that!?” We got to share the good news about how God is a God that loves her so much that he sent his son to pay the ultimate price for her. We talked about the beauty found in a relationship with Jesus. We explained to her that praying to the Lord is like a conversation with a friend. She didn’t have to say the perfect words or know all the things to have a loving conversation with Him.
The light in her eyes after we prayed was unlike anything I have ever seen. She was radiating and we were radiating the Lord’s love. We forgot about the language barrier and the cultural differences and focused on the one thing that brings us all together.
This encounter encouraged me as a believer to step out in my faith more in everyday life. I am not called to preach a gospel story that is well scripted but I am called to be an obedient daughter. I am able to share the most amazing love story about a father who loves his children more than anything. I get to share how God took a messy, lost girl who felt worthless and forgotten to become a girl who now is confident the fact that she is fully known and fully loved. I can talk about the joy and family that comes from saying yes to Jesus because I have seen it first hand. The Lord equips all of us to share our faith as simply and real as we can. We must be willing to be obedient to where his spirit leads.
I have already grown so much in my faith, been immersed in such sweet community, and been moved by the work of the Lord in Thailand. With eagerness and expectancy, I head into week 2.
