Hello everyone!
Month one in Guatemala is already over and I only have 8 more months of this adventure. I’ve learned so much during this first month, funny and serious, so I thought I’d share! Without further ado…..
1. I was definitely sent on the World Race for a purpose
2. Anabelle would be a great abuela (and a better wife *wink*)
3. Bringing an extra head light is a good idea
4. When your team is your roomies, you get really close really fast
5. There are too many flies in Guatemala
6. Buying a full body mirror for three months is worth it
7. My team’s room has 163 pictures on our walls
8. The urge to pet animals is real (I’m sorry Espanky, I wish I could pet you)
9. Hand washing landry takes forever, but it’s worth it
10. God is working in amazing ways
11. I love my team and think we’ll be lifelong friends
12. Satan will do anything to keep us from doing good work (so much sickness)
13. Feedback isn’t so bad
14. Do team time right after ministry and before dinner, if you have time, so everyone isn’t tired during it
15. “Can you milk a dog?” is a weird question
16. Reading the Bible isn’t as boring and hard as I thought it was
17. Makayla is our essential oil doctor
18. I really miss my family
19. God really can speak to you and show you things
20. I will never complain about doing dishes again
21. Put a towel under the room door to keep the cold air coming in at night
22. Everyone gets diarrhea at some point
23. God is a healer!
24. It is possible for seven girls to use one bathroom without fighting
25. I am the second youngest of our team
26. Amber doesn’t sleep
27. My team is the weirdest group of people but I wouldn’t want any other group as my team
28. Chicken bus operators can and will cram 30+ people into a mini van
29. God can show himself in a million different ways
30. There’s really no limit to the amount of inside jokes a team can have
31. When Val is in a weird state of tired she becomes a very entertaining singer and dancer
32. Our shower is huge, perfect for dancing
33. It is actually possible to miss your siblings
34. Everyone seems to know everything about the Enneagram (I’m pretty sure I’m a 6w7, not a 3 like originally thought)
35. Anabelle has crazy eyes
36. Teaching my 17-year-old ministry host, Brayan, how to say “cool beans” in English is the highlight of my life
37. Squad W loves their after dinner cereal
38. Keep your mouth closed while in the shower or you’ll get a parasite
39. HPK has amazing morning bed head
40. God has great things in store for Bola de Oro
41. I move a lot in my sleep
42. I take around 10,000 steps everyday
43. Walking in the street next to cars is normal
44. Geese outside a home basically act as an alarm system that someone is coming to visit
45. The Taco Bell in Antigua has great wifi
46. I cry, or at least tear up, every time I FaceTime my parents
47. I consistently forget where I am when I wake up in the morning
48. God really can show me things for other people
49. My team has some really cute moments
50. Guatemalans are really nice, open people
51. If someone hands you a piece of candy on a chicken bus, don’t eat it or you’ll have to pay for it
52. My team LOVES to laugh
53. El Frijol Sport in Parramous has great pizza
54. Even the boldest, most faithful Christians aren’t perfect
55. Scotch tape works on the base walls to hang up pictures
56. Team Esther is a force to be reckoned with
57. It’s possible to get two parasites
58. Piñatas are great to hang from the ceiling
59. Certain movies really never get old
60. Even people as pale as me can get a watch tan
61. God loves me no matter what
62. Washing dishes can be relaxing
63. The first month does fly by even though the first week seems like the whole month
64. A lot of people get tattoos the first month
65. The race changes lives
66. Tortillas with lime and salt are bomb
67. I’m not good at making tortillas
68. I am a child of God
69. I truly love to worship lead
70. My team is crazy supportive and loving
71. I can be brave
72. Birthdays with my team are great (check out my YouTube channel for proof)
73. God will bring peace to Guatemala
74. Squad W is an amazing family
75. It feels like it rains every five minutes here
76. I love piñatas
77. Crying in front of people isn’t too bad
78. I don’t really need my phone as much as I thought
79. Moments here are ours, not Instagram’s
80. God is doing incredible things though Squad W
This past month has been truly amazing and I can’t wait to see how God moves through us during these up coming months. That’s all for now!
